Rain, Early Morning Truck Accident Slows Traffic

Big rig jackknifes on southbound I-5.

Just after 12:00 a.m. Monday, a big rig traveling southbound on the I-5 jackknifed, causing two lanes to be closed.

The accident occurred near the Calgrove Blvd exit in Santa Clarita and the resulting lane closure was in effect for several hours.

By the time the peak morning commute rolled around the accident had been cleared up, although residual slowing and the rainy weather made the overall morning a slow one for motorists.

Valencia Football Team Bows Out Of CIF Playoffs In Semifinals

news_sportsThe Valencia football team ended its playoff run in the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Northern Division playoffs. Valencia lost to Moorpark, 40-14.

Running back Steven Manfro racked up 140 yards of total offense and scored a touchdown in his team's loss, the first of the season.


Saugus Girls Cross Country Team Finishes Fourth in Nike Nationals

sportslocalThe Saugus girls cross country came in fourth place in the Nike Cross Nationals meet in Portland, Ore., over the weekend. Kaylin Mahoney was the top runner for Saugus. She finished 13th in a field of 199 of the top runners in the country.

Karis Frankian finished 65th overall, second best for Saugus runners. Stephanie Bulder was 79th and Danielle Hernando was 92nd.


Santa Clarita Christian Wins Second Straight CIF 8-Man Football Championship

sportslocalThe Santa Clarita Christian football team is creating quite a little dynasty. With a 38-22 win over Faith Baptist, Santa Clarita Christian won its second CIF Southern Section Division I 8-man football championship in a row.

Deputies Make Quick Work Of Alleged Purse Snatchers


Just after 11:00 a.m. Sunday, Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies from the Santa Clarita station responded to a purse snatching call near Sierra Highway and Soledad Canyon Road.

According to Sgt. Cortland Meyers, a male suspect allegedly grabbed a woman's purse as she was exiting the Albertsons grocery store. The suspect then fled in a pick up truck.

Local Woman Believed To Be Longest Living Patient On Chemo Pill


Colleen Shaffer, Founder and Executive Director of Circle of Hope, Inc. was the guest speaker at the GI LT Creating the Vision Fall Summit 2009 held at Hotel Nikko in San Francisco on November 16, 2009.

After 7 ½ years Colleen may be the longest living breast cancer patient using Xeloda, a pill form of chemotherapy, as the drug is only 10 years old.
