Veterans Plaza Tree Lighting Set For Saturday

The community is invited to attend a tree-lighting ceremony to honor local members of the military Saturday night.

The event will begin at 7 pm and will be held in the Veterans Historical Plaza in downtown Newhall. Hosted by the Historical Veterans Memorial Committee, Prayer Angels for the Military and Blue Star Mothers Chapter 82 and 91, the evening is a cozy community gathering to celebrate our hometown heroes.

Local singer/playwright Marilyn Hackett will be among the performers.

Inmates Continue Holiday Tradition Of Toymaking

More than 50 years ago, inmates in Los Angeles County jails started a year-long work program guaranteed to spark the holiday spirit in needy children.

In two programs that continue today, inmates have been making dolls and carving wooden toys to be distributed to less fortunate children during the gift-giving season.

Valencia Girls Soccer Team Wins First Game Of Season

sportslocalThe Valencia girls soccer team won its first game of the season, 4-0, over Alemany in the Westlake Showcase. Nicolette Smith scored two goals. Kristen Bos and Emily Tuffey each added a goal for Valencia.

Tuffey and Bos each had an assist, as did Samantha Asarch and Hannah Hicks in the win for Valencia (1-0-1).

Experts are predicting that the rain will get heavier Monday evening and could lag into Tuesday morning. Coupled with the influx of cold air, that could even bring some early morning snow to the 2,000 foot level.
