Zonta Club Names Four Virginia Wrage Honorees

khts_givingbackZonta Club of Santa Clarita honored four women this month with Virginia Wrage Memorial grants totaling $7,000. The grants are given to mature women who face a life-changing situation and need some help to become self-sufficient again.

 

 

Hart District Bands Excel At Competition

For the first time ever, all six Hart District's high schools had bands that qualified for the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association championships. The finals were held at Warren High School in Downey on December 5.

For the eighth year in a row, Hart High School's award-winning marching band and color guard took home the state champion title and two other district schools earned medals in their divisions.

 

Power Outage In Canyon Country

Updated 5 p.m.

There has been a power outage reported in the Canyon Country area, due to a vault explosion. No injuries have been reported at this time.
The approximate location of the outage is west of Pamela Drive, east of Soledad, north of Podd Court, and south of Via Princessa.

Edison officials report that approximately 330 residents are without power.
We are expecting another update from Southern California Edison soon so please continue to check the story.

Freeway Closures for HOV Construction Project

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close the following lanes, ramps, connectors and collector roads of the Antelope Valley Freeway (SR-14), the Foothill Freeway (I-210) and the Golden State Freeway (I-5) as part of a $161-million improvement project to construct High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV or carpool) lanes and a direct HOV lane connector at the I-5/SR-14 interchange. Closures are subject to change.

Ron Hornaday Jr. Has New Crew Chief

Dave Fuge, a two-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion crew chief, will be Ron Hornaday Jr.'s crew chief at Kevin Harvick Inc. in 2010.

Hornaday won his fourth Truck Series championship in 2009. Fuge won two Truck Series championships as crew chief for XPress Motorsports in 2002 and 2003. Mike Bliss and Travis Kvapil were the drivers in those years.

 

Canyon Beats Panorama By 50 Points in Canyon Classic Basketball Tournament

sportscanyonThe Canyon boys basketball team is showing no mercy these days. Led by 15 points from Coley Apsay, Canyon built a 50-point lead and beat Panorama, 72-22, in the Canyon Classic last night. Canyon posted a 41-point win over Muir in the first game of the tournament.

In other games in the Canyon Classic, Valencia edged Eastside, 58-52, and West Ranch lost a heartbreaker, 59-58, to Paraclete.
