Valencia Football Team Squeaks Its Way Into Second Round Of CIF Playoffs

sportslocalThe Valencia football team is lucky to be alive in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division playoffs.

Hart and Canyon had no such luck in the first round of the playoffs.


Valencia's Zack Tartabull intercepted a 2-point conversion pass and preserved a 28-27 win over Thousand Oaks to advance to the second round.

The center itself provides everything from classes and activities to affordable housing, all through government grants and private donations.

Smiles Get A Place To Call Home

The Foundation for Children's Dental Health is coming together in a new office, providing better access to the community they serve.

The group has been helping children of the Santa Clarita Valley for more than 16 years and the move is the first time the foundation will have a permanent location.

Previously the group worked out of dental offices that were volunteered, or preformed the majority of other work in homes.

Local Officials Get High Marks From Jarvis Taxpayers Association

news_politicsThe Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association has come out with their 2009 Legislative Report Card, and all three state legislators representing the Santa Clarita Valley were given an A rating.

The Association ranks legislators based on how they voted on bills that impacted taxation in the state.

The College of the Canyons football team lost to Saddleback College, 31-20, in the Western State Bowl Saturday night. Congrats to COC on a great season!

County Tells Shoppers To Check Their Reciepts

As the holiday shopping season's post-Thanksgiving rush approaches, County of Los Angeles Weights and Measures officials remind shoppers to check their store receipts for overcharges.

Shoppers are legally entitled to pay only a store's lowest advertised or posted price for any item. County inspections have revealed that overcharge errors do occur and often involve items with special promotional offers, "sales," and markdowns for which price information has not been updated in the scanner system.
