Vikings Earn Top Playoff Seed

khts_sports1To the surprise of nobody in the Santa Clarita Valley, the Valencia Vikings football team has earned the number one overall seed in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division playoff bracket released earlier Sunday.

Antonovich Grants Money To Historic Trail

Walker RanchIn an effort to improve recreational trails in his district, Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich granted $2 million to 15 trails from the Safe Neighborhood Parks Propositions.

The trails are located between Claremont and reach into Lancaster and include Santa Clarita's very own East Walker Ranch trail.

Each trail will receive grant funds of up to $150,000 through funds from voter approved propositions.

Third Thursday Returns To Old Town Newhall This Week

pallette-3The third-ever Third Thursday will be held in Old Town Newhall this week from 5 to 9 p.m. The event features an Art Walk and hospitality stops at various businesses, a Farmers' Market on Market Street between Newhall Avenue and Main Street, with a wide variety of produce, snacks and dinner items. It's a unique opportunity to socialize and stroll along Main Street.



Afrizo To Perform At Newhall Presbyterian Church

afrizuFor the cost of a potluck dish, anyone can enjoy a free concert by African gospel group Afrizo, with its catchy rhythms and activity. Audiences catch laughter, singing, dancing, clapping, stomping, and good times.  Wearing vibrant yellows, blues, reds, and oranges, the singers dance and sway as they sing, giving a performance that makes the audience want to get up and dance too.


Hart Board Looks At Castaic High Sites Wednesday

On Wednesday, November 18 the William S. Hart School District Governing Board will pull double duty. A special meeting to discuss potential sites for a high school in Castaic will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the District's administrative center, located at 21515 Centre Pointe Parkway.

Saturday, the Cougars faced the Bakersfield Renegades at Cougar Stadium on the College Of The Canyons Campus.
The Cougars lost to Bakersfield. The final score was 24 to 9.

County Votes To Protect Rural Nature Of San Francisquito Canyon

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has unanimously approved a Community Standards District (CSD) for San Francisquito Canyon.

Located northeast of Santa Clarita, the San Francisquito community is a sparsely populated, rural-minded area. This new CSD will help the residents maintain their way of life.

Missing Parolee Nabbed In Saugus

khts_crimeSheriffs arrested a man Friday afternoon after receiving a tip from the City Interaction Team about a missing parolee.  
Lamonte Brookes, 45, has been missing from parole for three years and was arrested in the Saugus area around 6:30 p.m., after a state parole agency tipped off the CIT.

Lamonte was arrested for skipping parole, failing to register as a sex offender and possession of a police baton.

Art Exhibit To Explore Light

Local historic park to host artists' reception.


The Tesoro Adobe Historic Park will be the site of an artists' reception November 28. The LA County Parks & Recreation Department and the Santa Clarita Artists' Association invite the public to enjoy free finger food and beverages from 12 to 5 p.m., view original artwork, and get a free tour of the property.


Canyon Sneaks Into Football Playoffs On Coin Flip

Canyon, West Ranch and Saugus each finished with identical 2-3 Foothill League records and tied for third place in the league standings.
