Creature Feature: Zombie Invasion

Having walked with the dead this weekend (OK, we were pretending, but it was for a good cause) makes me curious about just what a zombie is - and if there are different kinds of zombies (there are) - and if they really are just shambling nomads looking for a good brain taco (nope).

The dictionary says that a zombie is basically a dead person brought back to life through a curse - either voodoo, black witchcraft or necromancy - or mutilation and has recovered some vital functions like movement.

Westside Ballot Questions Could Yield Unwanted Results

On November 3, residents who live in the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County near the City of Santa Clarita will be asked to cast an advisory vote on their preference of three options regarding how they would like to be governed locally. Those options are: Annex in to the city of Santa Clarita, incorporate into one new city, stay exactly the same.

Recovery teams testing new products and processes that can aid in the event of a disaster.

AT&T will be doing some internal preparation Tuesday, as they test and display their ability to restore communications during a major disaster.

Valencia, West Ranch, Hart Football Teams Win Foothill League Openers

news_sportsThe Valencia, Hart and West Ranch football teams started Foothill League play on winning notes.

Valencia and West Ranch posted impressive, eerily similar, wins in their Foothill League openers. Valencia beat an overmatched Canyon team, 49-7. West Ranch beat an inexperienced Golden Valley team by the same score, 49-7.

 

Valencia quarterback Alex Bishop threw three touchdowns, two to Jake Reed in the second half.

October 18: Dodgers Shutout In Game Three 11-0

Sunday, the Dodgers were in Philadelphia for game three of the NLCS playoff series with the Phillies. The Dodgers failed to score and were shutdown 11 to 0.

Castaic Hosts Festival

Workshop Delves Into Intricacies Of The Oak Tree

In the City of Santa Clarita, October is about much more than Halloween...it's about Oak trees.

Oak trees are a staple of the Santa Clarita landscape, adorning everything from our parks to our City seal. The City even went as far as to protect the trees within their governance area, and dedicated the tenth month of the year as "Oaktober," also referred to as "Oak Tree Awareness Month."

Close to 50 guests attended to salute local businesses for their commitment to the helping those with disabilities.

Underwater Pumpkin Carving Puts New Twist On Old Tradition

The City of Santa Clarita invites community members to attend its second annual Underwater Pumpkin Carving Contest, held October 24 at 6 p.m. at the City's Sports Complex Aquatic Center. The no cost event will feature teams of SCUBA divers carving pumpkins underwater in the City's Aquatic Center dive pool, as well as on-deck festive games and activities for spectators.
