    Castaic Residents Get Information On Annexation

    About 60 people turned out for an informational meeting for residents of Castaic, Tesoro and West Ranch Thursday night at Castaic Middle School to discuss the feasibility of all three options for governance.

    Twenty-nine Unlicensed Contractors Caught In Sweep

    Detectives from the Santa Clarita Valley station teamed up with investigators from the State Contractors License Board for a two-day sting operation Sept. 15 and 16 aimed at catching unlicensed contractors.

    During the operation, where contractors responded to a request for a bid at the sting location, 29 individuals were either arrested or received citations and were released in the field.

Now, while the everyone else category doesn't necessarily mean that the movie is bad, it just means you can't expect artistic greatness. Last week I thought "9" was amazing because it had a lot of great visuals and ideas, and this week I loved "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs because its sole mission is to entertain and it passes that goal with flying spaghetti.

    McKeon: Iran's Nuclear Programs Warrant Missile Defense System

    buckmckeonRep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon, who represents the Santa Clarita area in Congress and is the lead Republican on the House Armed Services Committee, is sounding off after new information regarding Iran's nuclear program surfaced.

    "Today's announcement that Iran has a covert uranium enrichment facility should come as no surprise. This deception shows a clear intent by Tehran to hide a growing nuclear weapons capability," McKeon said. 

    Decoro Restriping Underway

    Popular roadway will go back to four lanes while keeping new bike lanes.

    The motoring atmosphere on Decoro Dr. will be returning to normal, as the city of Santa Clarita has begun the process of restriping the roadway.

    Formerly a four lane road, the City had taken two lanes away in order to construct bike lanes. The change was met with mixed reaction among the local residents, and after a community meeting City Manager Ken Pulskamp determined that the two lanes should be added back.

    Drunk Drivers Beware

    CHPA CHP checkpoint has been announced.

    The California highway Patrol will be holding a sobriety checkpoint in the Santa Clarita Valley starting tonight around 8:30 p.m. and running through tomorrow morning.

    The goal is to raise awareness and deter motorists from driving under the influence.

    The CHP reports that checkpoints reduce the number of drunk drivers on the road and their psychological influence serves as a major influence on the public.

    U.S. Forest Fire Explorers Trading Pizza For Funds

    Sylmar restaurant offering portion of proceeds to fallen firefighters.

    From 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. tonight, Red Vest Pizza Parlor in Sylmar will be helping explorers from the U.S. Forest Service Fire Department raise funds for fallen firefighters.

    The money will benefit the Wildland Firefighter Foundation.

    Red Vest Pizza is located at 12639 Glenoaks Blvd. in Sylmar.

    Los Padres Forest Welcomes Visitors Fee-Free On Saturday

    Saturday has been designated a "Fee Free Day" for visitors to the Los Padres National Forest. The fee will be waived in all areas where an Adventure Pass normally is required. The free day is a celebration of National Public Lands Day, which is held each year on the last Saturday in September.
