    Runner Allyson Felix Wins Gold In Berlin

    Santa Clarita resident Allyson Felix won her third straight gold medal in the women's 200 meter race at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin.

    With a time of 20.02, Felix bested Veronica Campbell Brown of Jamaica and Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie of the Bahamas who took the silver and bronze, respectfully.

    Felix told CNN the location of her win - the stadium where Adolf Hitler presided over the 1936 Olympics and the track where Jesse Owens also took home the gold - had unique significance.

    Early Release Bill To Be Revised Before Assembly Votes Monday

    khts_budgetA controversial proposal to fill a $1.2 billion hole in the California budget by allowing the early release of 27,000 prisoners that passed the Senate Thursday has been put off until Monday by the state Assembly so that modifications can be made.

    The changes, proposed by Assembly Speaker Karen Bass, could make the legislation more palatable for both Republicans and Democrats, who have endured marathon sessions in an attempt to retain the state's solvency.

    The National Weather Service is reporting a threat of thunderstorms this afternoon through Sunday for Southwest California.

    An upper-level low pressure system off the coast, combined with an upper-level high pressure system over the great basin is expected to bring thunderstorm activity across the mountains and Antelope Valley.
