The Master's College Soccer Team Upsets No. 4 Mt. Vernon Nazarene

news_sportsThe Master's College men's soccer team started its season by upsetting Mt. Vernon Nazarene, the No. 4 team in the NAIA preseason poll.

Marcelo Silva scored the lone goal in the game in the 41st minute to give The Master's College a 1-0 win. Jader Santos assisted on the goal. Kevin Lawson faced only two shots on goal to record the shutout.

Next up for The Master's College men's soccer team is Westminster College from Utah at Reese Field on Friday.

Sheriff Calls Out The Troops For Gang Sweep


One particular Newhall gang got a rude awakening this morning, thanks to the long arm of the law.

Around 6 a.m., a massive law enforcement team - at least 150, according to Santa Clarita Valley Detective Lt. Steve Low - swooped down on 18 specific locations to make arrests and gather evidence from recent crimes.


Morris Fire Smoke Blankets SCV

Residents of Santa Clarita may notice thick white smoke in the area for the next couple of days. This smoke is not the result of any brush fires in the Santa Clarita Valley but is being carried into our valley from the Morris Fire which is burning in the San Gabriel Canyon area of the Angeles National Forrest near Azusa.

Red Flag Warning In Effect Through Friday

khts_redflagwarning1The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning because of high temperatures and single-digit humidity expected throughout the Southland through Friday.

Along with the hot and dry conditions, temperatures are expected to soar into triple digits through the interior and valley sections of the Santa Clarita and Antelope Valleys.

If you haven't been on Decoro Dr. in a while, you might be surprised to learn that the four lane road between McBean Parkway and Seco Canyon Rd. has been trimmed to just two lanes, in the city of Santa Clarita's efforts to add a bike lane.


Power Outage In Canyon Country

Residents report incident.

Some residents in Canyon Country experienced a power outage near Sierra Highway and American Beauty Dr. Wednesday morning.

According to Edison, 2,700 customers were affected by the outage, although crews were able to resolve the problem by 8:30 a.m.


College Of The Canyons Women's Volleyball Starts Season In San Luis Obispo

news_sportsThe College of the Canyons women's volleyball team starts its season in the Straight Down Tournament at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo on Saturday. Canyon High grads Ashlie Arnold and Jillian Anderson return to a team that was ranked 21st in the state last year by the California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association.

Saugus High grad Lindsey Wilcox and West Ranch grad Brooklyn Arndt are also on the COC team.


UPDATED - One Dead In Valencia Murder-Suicide Attempt

UPDATED 11:40 a.m. Tuesday

khts_crimeA domestic dispute turned deadly Monday night when a man shot his ex-wife, then turned the gun on himself.

According to Lt. Brenda Cambra, at 7:10 p.m., the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff's station received several 9-1-1 calls reporting gunfire in the area of the 23800 block of Del Monte Drive, in the Santa Fe condominium complex near McBean Parkway and Del Monte Drive in Valencia.
