    Juvenile Stabbed In Canyon Country Gang Incident

    Two juveniles were arrested and jailed last night in a gang-related assault.

    Sgt. Gary Parker reported that the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff's station was called shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday by Fire Station 107 in Canyon Country regarding a stabbing victim.

    Two Dead In Separate Santa Clarita Accidents-UPDATED

    Two separate traffic accidents Friday evening and Saturday morning resulted in the death of two men, according to the California Highway Patrol.

     

     

     

    The first accident occurred between 10:40 and 11:00 a.m. Friday when 63 year-old Francisco Diaz was driving a Chevy Astro van owned by Los Angeles County westbound on Lake Hughes road, east of Ridge Route Rd. near Castaic.

    College of the Canyons offers advanced degrees in new state-of-the-art building

    On Thursday, August 20th, College of the Canyons will hold an open house for prospective students and community members to view the new 110,000 square foot Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center.

    Providing interested students with the opportunity to converse with university representatives, learn about financial aid programs, meet with guidance counselors, and fill out admissions applications, the open house marks the start of a new relationship.

    Canyon Country Bike Trail To Close For Repairs

    The City of Santa Clarita is scheduled to begin construction on areas of the Bicycle Trail parallel to Soledad Canyon Road beginning Monday, August 17 as part of the City's annual Overlay and Slurry Seal Project. All affected areas of the Bicycle Trail will be closed to cyclists and a detour will be provided.

     

    Agencies Target Marijuana Cultivations In Local Forest

    Removing drug cultivations a "common activity" this time of year.

     

    Recent eyewitness reports of a major pot bust up Placerita Canyon Rd. Thursday evening were likely a part of an ongoing U.S. Forest Service operation to eradicate marijuana cultivations.

     

    According to Angeles National Forest spokesman Stanton Florea, crews have been clearing out makeshift marijuana farms on a regular basis. It is not an uncommon practice for growers to plant their drugs in a desolate forest location and hope to avoid detection.

    Saturday, LA lost to Arizona. In the sixth inning, Pitcher, Hiroki Kuroda was hit in the head by a Rusty Ryal line drive and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Kuroda remained alert and never lost consciousness The final score in extra innings was 4 -3.
