    Military Mothers Feted At Dinner

    A dinner was recently given at College of the Canyons in the newly remodeled Student Center cafeteria honoring Blue and Gold Star Mothers, Prayer Angels For the Military and military families living in the Santa Clarita Valley.  The dinner was prepared and served by American Mothers, Inc., which is the official sponsor of Mother's Day here in the United States.

     

    New Golden Valley Coach Turning Program Around

    gvcoach3With his shaved head, goatee and tattoos, Andy Campbell, the new head football coach at Golden Valley High School, has just the right attitude to turn the "Bad News Bears" into a winning team of Grizzlies.

     

    Since its varsity debut in 2005, Golden Valley football has earned a reputation as the team you play for homecoming to ensure an easy win. But look for that to change as the Grizzles take the field this fall.

    Smoke Everywhere, But No Fire Or Flames Here

    Orange skies and thick air are blanketing the Santa Clarita Valley, but there are currently no fires burning in the immediate area.

    California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared a State of Emergency in Los Angeles and Monterey Counties because of wildfires that have consumed thousands of acres and threatened hundreds of homes. The designation qualifies those affected by the fires for federal emergency assistance.

    Our bedtime ritual in Santa Clarita - opening the upstairs bedroom windows and allowing the cool, fresh night air to fill the rooms.  Of course, sometimes the rooms are also filled with night noises, like honking geese at 2:00 AM.

    Power Out In Sand Canyon Area

    Earlier accident leaves homes without electricity.

    A car accident just after 2:00 a.m. on Sand Canyon Road and Alamo Canyon is still affecting some homeowners in the area.  A vehicle collided with a power pole, which caused several homes to lose power and even forced the closure of Sand Canyon Rd..

    Sand Canyon Rd. will be closed until about 4:00 p.m., at which time motorists should use the following detour:
