As of June 2009, the current rate of unemployment in California hit a historic high at 11.6% according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In an attempt to support families suffering from unemployment, the Canyon Theatre Guild is offering free tickets to their productions.

Weltig, Redmond Win Oxnard City Golf Championships

Ashley_RedmondThe Oxnard City Golf Championships belong to a couple players from the Santa Clarita Valley.

Ryan Weltig, a West Ranch High School graduate and a student at College of the Canyons, won the men’s championship with a 3-under par 141 in the two-day tournament over the weekend at the River Ridge golf course.

Ashley Redmond, a Hart High graduate, won the women’s championship by one shot and a two day total of 157.


UPDATE: 2nd Burglary Suspect Nabbed In Stevenson Ranch


Sheriff's deputies got some help from canine units in the search for a second burglary suspect after an incident on the 26000 block of O'Hara Lane in Stevenson Ranch.




Santa Clarita Deputies Sniff Out Another Bad Guy


Deputies smelled something fishy when they made a traffic stop Wednesday morning.

According to Lt. Mark Hershey of the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff's station, deputies followed and stopped a stolen car driven by Robert Bradford, 24, as he drove along the I-5 just south of Highway 126, shortly after 6 a.m.



Dodgers Win 6-2

Wednesday, the Dodgers wrapped up their three game series against the Reds with a win and a huge night for Manny Ramirez. In the bottom of the 6th, with the bases loaded, Ramirez came in to pinch hit for Chad Billingsley and hit his 21 career grand slam homerun to give the dodgers a 6-2 win over the Reds and the series sweep.

The Dodgers are off on Thursday and will face the Marlins on Friday for game one of a three game series. Catch the game LIVE on AM-1220 KHTS beginning at 6:30 PM

Taco Bell Chihuahua Dies In Castaic


World-famous former Taco Bell spokesdog and Castaic resident Gidget the Chihuahua died Tuesday night of a stroke at the age of 15.

Owner Sue Chipperton, who runs Studio Animal Services in Castaic, called the dog a "consummate professional" and said that in recent years, Gidget spent her days sunbathing.


Junior Skate To Keep Big Kids Out

New hours help kids practice safely

Beginning this Saturday, July 25, the City of Santa Clarita will host Junior Skate every Saturday from 8:00-10:00 a.m. at the Santa Clarita Skate Park. Junior Skate is open exclusively to skaters 12 years of age and under.


Advisory Vote Approved For West Side Governance
