Senate Passes Tentative Budget Compromise


The California State Senate spent all night trying to make things balance. At 6:30 a.m., they came up with a compromise that everyone in their house could live with.

Now it's up to the Assembly to vote on a package of 30 bills that would close the $26.5 billion budget gap.

Valencia Scores Big Over Simi Valley In Valley Invitational Baseball League Playoffs

sportslocalThe Valencia baseball team outslugged Simi Valley, 14-11, to win in the first round of the Valley Invitational Baseball League playoffs yesterday.

Timmy Lopes drove in four runs and was 4-for-4 with two doubles for Valencia. Garrett Adamiak drove in four runs, three with a bases-loaded double in a six-run fourth inning.

Starter Justin Hanks got win, going four innings and striking out two.

Hart Wins First-Round Playoff Game In Valley Invitational Baseball League

Hart’s Garrett Gooding struck out four batters in relief while adding three hits and an RBI in a convincing 11-1 victory over Kennedy in the first round of the Valley Invitational Baseball League playoffs on Thursday.

“We were all over the plate. Even the outs we hit were well struck,” said Hart coach Jim Ozella.


SigAlerts Cancelled For Southbound I-5

SigAlerts cancelled on SB I-5


The CHP has cancelled a SigAlert for the southbound I-5 in the Newhall Pass, where a vehicle overturned. An earlier problem on the southbound I-5 north of Castaic has also been cleared.


2 left lanes of the southbound I-5 were blocked near Gavin Canyon, which is just north of the Newhall pass.


Deputies Practice New Approach On Campus

simulation_deputies_approachOn the summer-empty campus of Valencia High School, some very important lessons were being learned Thursday morning.

A handful of "students" hung around buildings or sat in teacher-free classrooms. As "shots" - blanks, fired by other role-players - rang out, they scrambled.

Deputies rushed in to find the shooters, grabbing students to get descriptions and information before pushing them to safety.


Two Arrested In Stevenson Ranch Burglary


Two burglary suspects are in custody after sheriff's deputies set up a containment in Stevenson Ranch Wednesday afternoon.

Shortly after 1 p.m., a female resident of a home in the 26000 block of O'Hara Lane came home and found a man running out the back door. Deputies responding learned that there was not just one, but two suspects in the break-in and quickly captured one suspect near the home.


Romaine Lettuce Recalled For Possible Salmonella Contamination


Tanimura & Antle, Inc. of Salinas, Calif. is voluntarily recalling one lot of romaine lettuce because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. No illnesses have been reported to date, and the company is working with the Food and Drug Administration to inform consumers of this recall.


Laundromat Fire May Have Been Caused By Lint

laundrymatfire_5Firefighters rushed to Launderland at around 10:00 this morning after reports of a fire.


When they arrived at the laundromat, which shares a wall with the CVS on Soledad Canyon Rd. and Camp Plenty, they witnessed smoke emitting from the building and the roof.


After quickly isolating the problem areas crews were able to deem the structure safe; however not before the incident had caused damage.
