    CHP Reports Grand Results On Auto Theft

    California vehicle theft rates lowest since 1996khts_crime_chp

    Vehicle theft rates in California continue their three year decline, but it's still a good idea to lock your Toyota pickup. That vehicle has topped the most stolen list every year since 1984.

    Recently released CHP statistics show a 12.2 percent drop in 2008 alone, the largest such decrease in more than 10 years.

     

    College Of The Canyons Adds New Summer Classes

    COC Canyon Country Campus offers three additional courses

    On Monday, July 20, College of the Canyons added three classes to the 2009 summer session: philosophy, english, and history.

    Each of these classes began on Monday at the Canyon Country campus and will conclude on Thursday, August 20.

    Students who wish to enroll in one of these courses can register online or at the COC Admissions and Records office.

    Westfield Valencia Town Center will present "Kung Fu Panda" for free on a big screen under the stars in Town Square on Wednesday, August 5 at 7 p.m. This is the second in a series of WFamily Movie Night features taking place the first Wednesday each month through October.

    Saturday, the Dodgers defeated the Marlins at Dodgers Stadium. The final score was 4 to 3.

    Cities Keep Gas Tax Revenues In Approved Budget Compromise

    After nonstop negotiations that stretched from Thursday afternoon through the night and only concluded Friday afternoon, both houses of the California Legislature agreed on a budget compromise that bridges the $26.5 billion deficit that forced the state to issue IOUs to vendors and significant cutbacks in programs.

    Deputies on their way to conduct probation checks this week saw a man looking into car windows and trying door handles in the parking lot of the Facey Medical Group at Valencia Boulevard and McBean Parkway. When they tried to talk with the man, he jumped on a bicycle and fled the area.

     

     

    La Bella Vida Gala Tickets Going Fast

    Sunday is the last day that community members can reserve tickets to "Imagine...La Bella Vida," the American Cancer Society Santa Clarita Valley Unit's inaugural tribute gala.

    Slated for Sunday, Aug. 2 from 5-9 p.m. at Tournament Players Club in Valencia, the distinguished event will pay homage to three outstanding hematologist/oncologists known to many within this community, particularly those affected by cancer.
