Kanke Loses Lead, Finishes Eighth In SRL Southwest Tour Race

sportslocalM.K. Kanke was three laps away from winning his fourth Stockcar Racing League Southwest Tour race when his car broke down at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale on Saturday night.

The driver from Frazier Park went from leading the race to eighth-place.


It was his worst finish of the year, but he was able to maintain his lead in the SRL Southwest Tour standings.

Troy Emish of Fremont won the race, his first of the year.

Victims Identified In Santa Clarita Plane Crash


Cause of accident still under investigation.

UPDATE: Sunday, July 19 at 9:20 a.m.

Just after 12:00 p.m. Saturday, July 18, a light experimental aircraft crashed in the Sand Canyon area of Santa Clarita, killing it's two occupants.

Vehicle Hits Utility Pole Near Kmart

Sunday, just before noon, a vehicle collided with a utility pole at the intersection of Valencia Blvd. and Bouquet Canyon Rd. There was no immediate report of any injuries as a result of this incident, which impacted traffic at the intersection.

New Fire North Of Castaic 100 Percent Contained

A brush fire that started off of the I-5 north of Castaic was knocked down early Sunday afternoon.The blaze was held at 20 acres in size. No structures were threatened.

The right lane of the north I-5 remains closed near the 2000 ft. level. A SigAlert has been issued.





Sand Canyon Residents On Edge After Possible Large Animal Attack

An email is circulating through the Sand Canyon area warning of brazen wild animals, which have reportedly been seen in the neighborhoods with increasing frequency.


One family in particular was affected, finding their pet dog killed by what appeared to be a mountain lion.
