    Bauer Earns Spot On USA National Baseball Team

    sportshartHart High graduate Trevor Bauer, a freshman pitcher at UCLA, has earned a spot on the USA National baseball team.

    He will join UCLA teammate Gerrit Cole, another freshman pitcher, on the 22-man collegiate roster.

    Bauer was 9-3 with a team-best 2.99 ERA and 92 strikeouts for the Bruins last season.

    The Premier Soccer Santa Clarita Valley Rooks have a pair of home games this weekend at Canyon High School.

    Michael Jackson Dead At 50

    Thursday: CNN is now reporting that singer Michael Jackson has died after suffering a cardiac arrest shortly after noon.

    Jackson was been taken to UCLA Medical Center by ambulance suffering from cardiac arrest. He was declared dead by physicians at the hospital. Jackson's family was at his side when he died.

    UPDATE: Missing Hiker Located

    khts_breakingnews2A hiker in the Gorman area has been found, after three days of no contact.

     

    Los Angeles County Sheriff's Search and Rescue at 4:30 p.m. near the area of the Cienega Campground, which is located at the end of Templin Highway, east of the Interstate 5 Freeway.

     

    Officials say that he was dehydrated, but otherwise healthy.

    Dodgers Lose In 13 To White Sox, 6-5

    Sanitation Fees Float Higher For Residents, Businesses

    frankferryWith a full contingent of voters, the Board of the Santa Clarita Valley Sanitation District met Wednesday and unanimously approved a 14 percent increase in service charges for residents, resulting in a monthly fee bump of $1.67, starting in January 2010.

    beefOne of the biggest beef producers in the country is issuing a recall.

    The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the recall of beef products produced by the JBS Swift Beef Company due to possible E. coli O157:H7 contamination.

    The recall is for 41,280 pounds of beef products produced by the Colorado firm on April 21 and 22, 2009.

    West Ranch Baseball Team Slams Golden Valley

    sportswestranchThe West Ranch baseball team had little trouble with Golden Valley in the Valley Invitational Baseball League.

    Michael Alvarez hit a grand slam and drove in five runs as West Ranch beat Golden Valley, 21-6, on Wednesday. Jared Ortiz had three hits and drove in three runs for West Ranch, undefeated at 8-0 in the summer baseball league.
