Police And Fire Games Bring Thousands To Santa Clarita For Competition

If you see a lot of cops hanging around town the next week or so, it's not because the crime rate is going up. More than 5,000 police, sheriff and fire personnel from 417 different emergency public service agencies are expected for the 2009 Western States Police and Fire Games, which begin Saturday and end on June 20.

A Walk In The Park Could Bring A Cure

Six Flags Friends, the philanthropic arm of Six Flags, and Cure Kids Cancer have teamed up once again to raise awareness and funding for pediatric cancers through its "A Walk In the Park" program. This unique walk-a-thon event will take place at all domestic Six Flags properties throughout the summer including Six Flags Magic Mountain on Saturday, June 20.

If you've noticed that all of us here in the Santa Clarita valley are a bit more pasty than usual, that might be because we haven't seen a full day of sunshine in over a week.

 

June gloom has cast its dark clouds and mild temperatures upon this area and by now you're probably wondering when it will end. Well I have good news and bad news.

 

Murder Suspect Barricaded In Gorman - UPDATED

A murder suspect who held off police after his car was discovered in the parking lot of the Econolodge Motel on Gorman Post Road was found unconscious with a puncture wound to the chest that was initially reported as a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

CERT Refresher Course Set Saturday

khts_inthecommunityThe Los Angeles County Fire Department is hosting a Community Emergency Response Training, (C.E.R.T.) Mini-Refresher from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the department's North County Training Center in Lancaster.

ALL CERT-trained individuals living in the Antelope and Santa Clarita Valleys who have completed training classes are invited to attend this event.

 

Golden Valley High Player First In School History To Be Drafted

When the Chicago White Sox picked Jordan Yallen in the 47th round of the Major League Baseball, the team made history. The White Sox made Yallen the first baseball player from Golden Valley to be drafted by a major league team.

 

Now Yallen has a tough decision to make. He has a scholarship to play baseball at Gonzaga and an offer to play professional baseball for the White Sox.

D.I.S.A.R.M Helps Keep Streets Safe

During the month of May, Developing Increased Safety through Arms Reduction Management (D.I.S.A.R.M) officers confiscated 109 weapons including: 56 handguns, 7 assault rifles, and 27 rifles/shotguns, over $1.8 million in illegal drugs, and arrested 142 probationers during 1,609 unannounced searches of residences, persons, vehicles, and businesses, announced Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.
