Acton Brush Fire Knocked Down

Los Angeles County Fire department crews have knocked down a brush fire in Acton, east of Biggs Road and Soledad Canyon Road.

The fire, dubbed the "Soledad Incident,"  charred more than 5 acres of heavy brush in the U.S. Forest.

However, with a large delegation of firefighters and calm winds, the fire was doused by 2:20 p.m.

Premier Soccer Santa Clarita Valley Wins First Game

sportslocalThe Premier Soccer Santa Clarita Valley Rooks won their first game in franchise history on Saturday. Keep in mind the Rooks franchise history is all of 10 games.
Still, the women’s soccer team beat the Claremont Stars, 1-0, on a goal by Adriene Dickerson in the 48th minute. Chelsea Riggins, a Canyon High graduate, assisted on the goal.

Dodgers Lose 4-2

Sunday, the Dodgers lost to the Seattle Mariners at home. The final was 4 to 2.

Free Summer Meals Available At Three Sites

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell today announced economically disadvantaged children may receive free meals during the traditional summer recess. Nearly 2,900 locations throughout California offer the Summer Food Service and the Seamless Summer Feeding Option programs.

In the Santa Clarita Valley, the free meals will be available at the SCV Boys and Girls Club facilities on Stillmore Street in Canyon Country and Newhall Avenue in Newhall, as well as the Santa Clarita Community Center on Market Street in Newhall.


Valencia High Leading The Fight For Diversity

Valencia High School and Principal Paul Priesz have received the Hart District's Valuing Diversity Award for the 2008-09 school year.


The award was presented at an end-of-the-year Administrative Council meeting by Diversity Coordinator Greg Lee in recognition and appreciation of diversity on the Valencia campus.

Gorman Fire 100% Contained

Sunday, at 12:07 PM a brushfire broke out in Gorman.

UPDATE: As of 4:15 PM, LA County Fire officials are reporting 100 percent containment. The fire burned 120 acres near Gorman Road and Peace Valley Road. Los Angeles Fire crews from LA and Kern county with support from fixed wing aircraft were able to get the upper hand on this blaze thanks to low winds in the area. no structures were threatened.

Saturday, the Dodgers lost to the Seattle Mariners at Dodgers Stadium. The final in game two was 5 to 1.
