Saugus Baseball Team Moves On

 

The Saugus baseball team survived the wild-card round of the CIF-Southern Section Division I playoffs. The Hart baseball team did not.

Saugus beat Oxnard, 4-2. Stefan Cordes hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning and Kyle Hooper pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings in relief for Saugus.

Saugus plays national powerhouse Mater Dei, the second-place team from the Trinity League, on Friday.

Three High School Golfers Advance To CIF Individual Finals

Three players from the Foothill League advanced to the CIF Southern Section Individual finals May 26 at Hacienda Gold Course in La Habra Heights. Jonathan Chang and Alex Macaluso from Valencia and J.J. Holen from West Ranch all made the cut for the next round of high school golf playoffs. Holen shot a 2-under par 69 at the Sterling Hills Golf Course in Camarillo on Monday. Chang was 1-over at 72 and Macaluso shot a 71.

Austin Raanes of Quartz Hill won the individual finals with a 5-under 66.

New PAC Agreement On Table At Joint Council/Trustee Meeting

 

The City and College of the Canyons will continue their fiscal relationship to support the Performing Arts Center if a proposed Memorandum of Understanding is approved tomorrow night at a special joint meeting of the City Council and the college’s Board of Trustees.

 

Former Santa Clarita Planner Takes Helm At Ventura

 

Former city planner and lobbyist Jeff Lambert, whose name has been thrown around during some of the area’s most controversial real estate development discussions, has been hired as the Planning Director for the City of Ventura.

 

 

“I really like public service,” Lambert said. “It’s a great city with a great council and city manager with a lot of opportunities.”

 

Water Agencies Already Pulling From Reserves Amid Drought

With Santa Clarita and the rest of California in the middle of a drought period, the Castaic Lake Water Agency has had to dip into the reserves for the first time in several years.

There are four different water companies in Santa Clarita; Valencia Water, Newhall County Water Company, Santa Clarita Water and L.A. County Waterworks District #36. Castaic Lake Water Agency (CLWA) is the wholesaler that acquires and distributes the water to the local companies, who in turn deliver it to our faucets.

Taxi Fares Get Unexpected Pickup

 

A cabdriver with a cooperative nature delivered two robbery suspects to deputies Tuesday morning.

 

Shortly after 1:20 a.m., Newhall residents Hildardo Villareal, 18, and Francisco Flores, 20, entered the Alliance Gas station on Newhall Avenue and picked up two six-packs of beer.

Veterans Educational Equity Act Introduced By McKeon

Leading a coalition of California elected officials, Rep. Howard P. “Buck” today introduced the Veterans Educational Equity Act. 

McKeon, the top Republican on the U.S. House Education and Labor Committee and a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, says that he developed the legislation in response to reports that California veterans may be unfairly denied educational benefits under the post-9/11 GI Bill.

Saugus Baseball Team Advances In CIF Playoffs

Stefan Cordes hit a three-run home run for Saugus and ruined a strong pitching performance by Oxnard’s Mikel Beltran in the wild-card round of the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs on Tuesday.

Cordes’ home run was the difference for Saugus in a 4-2 win over Oxnard. Saugus advances to the first-round of the Division I playoffs and will travel to face Mater Dei, the second-place team from the Trinity League, on Friday.
