Suspected Carjacker Caught After High Speed Crash On 14 Freeway

At about 10:30 Friday night, a woman and her two children were the victims of a car-jacking on Sandy Dr. in Canyon Country.

The suspect, later identified as 19 year-old Styles Johnson, reportedly pointed a gun at the driver and forced her and her family out of the car, which he then stole.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies from the Santa Clarita station were alerted to the incident and a Sheriff’s department helicopter began canvassing the area.  

4.7 Earthquake Near LAX

The U.S. Geological Survey has confirmed that a magnitude 4.7 earthquake occurred at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, May 17th near the city of Inglewood, located in the area surrounding Los Angeles International Airport.  Some Santa Clarita residents reported feeling some shaking from the initial earthquake.

A smaller aftershock occurred a few moments later.

While some damage was reported, no major problems or injuries resulted from the shaking.

Sometime last Monday night or early Tuesday morning, a female mountain lion was hit by a car and killed.  The accident occurred on the I-5, just south of Calgrove Boulevard.  MRCA Ranger Ken Nelson thinks she was traveling from west to east, because she was found on the southbound side.

California voters sent a strong message in rejecting the budget propositions on Tuesday.  This illustrates the need for structural reform -- not band-aids that allow business as usual.
