Tree Thief Shovels Up A Lot Of Trouble


A Newhall resident spotted just the trees he was looking for to plant in his yard on Friday afternoon.


Pulling his pickup truck alongside the trees, he got out a shovel and proceeded to unearth the trees and load them into the bed of the pickup.


Trouble is, the trees weren’t in a commercial nursery. They were growing along the Golden State Freeway, near Wayne Mills Road in Valencia.


4.4 Westlake Village Earthquake Felt In Santa Clarita

A small earthquake centered near Westlake Village rattled nerves in Santa Clarita. The magnitude 4.4 quake was centered 6 miles southwest of Westlake Village.

No information regarding injuries or damage have been reported, but KHTS will post that information when it becomes available.

Bike Nights Restored At Route 66 For Now


A temporary use permit to allow weekly bike nights to continue at Route 66 Classic Grill in Canyon Country will be issued by the City of Santa Clarita, with the caveat of bringing the issue back to the planning commission in September.

With nosuspected or confirmed cases of swine flu in the Santa Clarita Valley, residents are encouraged to maintain preventive practices such as washing their hands, staying home if they or their children feel sick and limiting contact with those who may have symptoms of the flu.

As of 10:30 a.m. Thursday, the California Department of Public Health reports that there are 16 confirmed cases of swine flu in California with 7 cases in San Diego County, 5 in Imperial County, 2 in Marin County and 1 each in Sacramento and San Bernardino Counties.
