Health Services Eyes Potential Cuts

The Department of Health Services is set to reevaluate health care within the county.

The motion, presented by Supervisor Michael Antonovich and approved by the Board of Supervisors, will analyze non-emergency care and non-chronic disease care to determine where cuts can be made.

O'Neal To Serve Rehab Sentence At Pitchess



Redmond O’Neal, the son of actors Ryan O’Neal and Farrah Fawcett, was accepted into Drug Court today to complete a year-long, intensive drug rehabilitation program that includes in-custody treatment at Pitchess Detention Center.

Airport Court Commissioner Jane Godfrey ordered the 24-year-old back to court on May 28 for a progress report, said Deputy District Attorney Tony Estradas.

Local Emergency Room Overloaded With N1H1 Worriers

Doctors and emergency medical personnel at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center are watching as services become clogged, helplessly  overrun by panicked people who swear they've contracted the N1H1 virus.

"Our biggest concern is that the media driven hysteria about the H1N1 flu is overcrowding our emergency rooms that are already overburdened now," said Dr. Mike Sarti, Emergency Room Medical Director for Holy Cross.

The stress is posing a challenge for medical personnel who are trying to quell the panic with education.

Hydroxycut Products Recalled Due To Death, Liver Problem


Customers using Hydroxycut products are being advised by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to stop immediately because some of the products have been associated with serious liver injuries and one death and have been voluntarily recalled from the market.

Magic Mountain Parkway Widening: The construction of Magic Mountain Parkway widening (eastbound) is 70 percent complete. Curb and gutter, roadway paving, and traffic signal installation is in progress and tentatively scheduled to be complete in May 2009.

Newhall School District Details Budget Impacts On The Classroom

At the April 21st meeting of the Governing Board of the Newhall School District staff and board members came to consensus on a list of budget reductions, expenditure shifts, and flexibility that will allow the creation of the 2009-10 Adopted Budget to be approved this June.  They identified about $2 million in further expenditure reductions in the general fund.  This comes on the heel of approximately $1.5 million in reductions that were made in the current school year.
