    Teams Await Baseball And Softball Playoff Pairings

     

    The Hart baseball team didn’t do itself any favors in Friday’s Foothill League finale against West Ranch. Hart blew a 9-0 lead, lost 11-9, and might be sitting out the CIF-Southern Section playoffs this year. Hart finished in fourth place in league. Only the top three teams in league earn automatic playoff berths.

    Rough Night Of Racing For R.J. Johnson

    R.J. Johnson of Canyon Country set the fast time in qualifying and drove to the lead in the NASCAR Super Trucks race at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale on Saturday night. But a mechanical failure knocked him to the back of the field after a restart on lap 26.

    Johnson ended up in 13th place in the 14-truck field.
    Johnson won his first Super Trucks race of the year two weeks ago at the track.

    Rich DeLong III, driving a new truck, the No. 71 Super Trucks Inc. entry, was sixth.

    “With the acute challenges facing our legislators in Sacramento, we appreciate Assemblywoman Strickland taking time out of her busy schedule to visit the campus and get a taste of what we’re doing to help serve the community and boost our local economy,” Chancellor Dr. Dianne Van Hook said.

    Highlighting the visit was a behind-the-scenes look at the still-under-construction Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center facility.

    “I’m always impressed by College of the Canyons and their willingness to push forward and bring new ideas to reality,” Assemblywoman Strickland said.

    This week was “payday” for 10 local non-profit organizations and two outstanding young women, who received a combined total of $16,500 in community grants and scholarships awarded by Zonta Club of the Santa Clarita Valley.

    Valencia, the reigning national champs, swept a scrappy Simi Valley team, 32-30, 25-17, 25-23, on Friday night. Canyon, Saugus and Hart all lost their first round matches.

    Providence Holy Cross a busy hospital. A designated trauma center, Holy Cross gets the added responsibility of taking on the most severely wounded patients in the event of an emergency.

    Today, hospital staff, past patients and supporters gathered to celebrate 25 years as a trauma center, treating victims whose lives were on the line. Of course, Holy Cross is no stranger to the need for trauma care, since the hospital itself was born out of one of the worst disasters in southern California history.
