Sheriff’s Take Pills, Waste, And Sensitive Data Off Streets

Community members turned up early to beat the crowds at the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s station’s second annual “Safe & Secure” collection event held at the College of the Canyons campus on Saturday. The event, which the city of Santa Clarita helped to sponsor, saw over 800 local residents come out to drop off personal documents for destruction, along with electronic waste for recycling and old medication for disposal.

High Schoolers Earn $15k In Water Scholarships

With water use a hot topic in the Santa Clarita Valley, local high school students turned conservation ideas into reality for Castaic Lake Water Agency's (CLWA) first-ever Water Challenge Scholarship Program while earning money for college. The Water Challenge attracted 244 students who proposed 74 projects on water issues-conservation and quality chief among them.

Thousands Flock To 2nd Discovering Careers Fair

Saturday afternoon, College of the Canyons played host to the 2009 Discovering Careers Fair.

The fair is unlike normal job fairs. Students of all ages were invited to roam the halls, talking with real professionals from every field imaginable. Whether the student is 9 or 19 matters little; the information garnered from the fair can help to shape the path of their education and career training.

Fire Explorers To Graduate Sunday


The Angeles National Forest will be hosting a graduation ceremony Sunday, April 26 for 45 cadets in the Wildland Fire ExplorerAcademy, Post #99. The ceremony will begin promptly at noon at the Don Biedebach Training Center, 12371 Little Tujunga Canyon Road, San Fernando (Osborne exit off the 210 freeway).
