"Stump The Politician" Airs Thursday On KHTS

Assemblyman Cameron Smyth will field questions from local school
children.

On Thursday afternoon at 4:00
p.m., KHTS AM-1220 will broadcast a live installment of “Stump the
Politician.”

 

The program, sponsored by the Southern California Gas
Company, brings elected officials face to face with local school children who
try to stump them with their pre-conjured questions.

 

COC Sponsors College Fair

High school students and their parents can meet college recruiters, get questions answered.

More than 60 colleges and universities will be in attendance
at College of the Canyons on Saturday, October 11, for Santa Clarita Valley College
Day 2008. Representatives will be on hand to provide information about their
schools and programs to college-bound high school students and their parents.
The event will take place from 9 a.m.
to 1 p.m. at COC’s Valencia
campus.

Sheriff’s Department to host meeting that will arm the
public with ways to prevent crime.

 

Rather than wait to respond to crime, our Santa Clarita
Sheriff’s Department is sending out the message that in many cases, residents
can actually prevent crime in their homes, neighborhoods and daily lives.

 

With this in mind, a town hall meeting will be held on
Thursday September 18th, from 7:00
p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at
City Hall.

Sinkhole Closes Street In Castaic

Broken water main suspected in late-night damage.

UPDATED 10:51 a.m. Tuesday


A water main that broke shortly after midnight Tuesday caused a sinkhole 5 feet deep and 10 feel
across, and disrupted water service to 35 customers on Lassen
Street in Castaic.

CHP officers responding to the scene found a geyser and
resulting sinkhole and closed Lassen Street
near the intersection of Olympic Street. The roads were reopened by morning
rush hour, but restricted to residents only.

Hart District Slightly Lower Than State Average On CAHSEE Results

Results released by Sacramento reveal majority of students pass high school exit exam.

Scores released this morning by the California Department of
Education show that 87 percent of students in the William S. Hart District passed
the California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE) in 2008.
