Bandit On Scooter Nabbed In Canyon Country

Alert resident calls deputies to catch thief on wheels.


Beware of scooter-riding visitors in the darkness – it was enough to make a suspicious Canyon Country resident call deputies Wednesday morning, resulting in the arrest of a 25-year old prowler on wheels.

Ricardo Cortes, 25, of Canyon Country was booked for suspicion of felony receiving stolen property and misdemeanor petty theft after deputies caught him cruising along a line of parked cars, trying the door handles.

Saugus Graduate Earns Top Honors In Sheriff's Class

Four female and 31 male Deputy Sheriffs, as well as eight male Police Officers from the Beverly Hills, Burbank, Culver City, and Glendale Police Departments, graduated from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Training Academy in Santa Clarita during ceremonies held on Thursday, July 17 at the College of the Canyons Performing Arts Center.

Stroke Study Meeting Set For Wednesday

Ongoing study for experimental stroke treatment to be explained.


An information meeting to explain the risks and benefits of a stroke study being carried out by local paramedics and health care professionals is scheduled at noon Wednesday, July 23 at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. As part of the study, paramedics give stroke patients a dose of magnesium sulfate in the field, which may minimize brain damage.
