The following entries won trophies for their participation in the 2008 Santa Clarita Fourth of July parade. Trophies can be picked up at the Santa Clarita Parks and Recreation office, 23920 Valencia Blvd. Suite 120 beginning Monday, July 7 during normal business hours.

Celebrity Waiter Dinner Adopts Intergalactic Theme

Save-the-date cards will go out this month for the annual Celebrity Waiter Dinner, a major fund-raising event to support the Respite Adult Day Care program offered by the SCV Senior Center. Theme for this year’s gala will be InterGALActic Affair, which should provide some colorful ideas for table decorations and costumes.

Grass Fire Burns At Golden Valley Road

Slow-moving fire consumes five acres.



A small grass fire burned five acres near the southbound Antelope Valley (14) freeway at Golden Valley Road.



Fire officials responded at 4:18 to the location and reported four small starts. The fire moved in a westerly direction and burned light fuel.

Young Man Stabbed In Valencia, Brother Arrested

Young men fight, one stabbed in the leg.

A 19-year old Valencia resident stabbed his brother in the leg Friday afternoon.

According to Lt. Tom Bryskie of the Santa Clarita sheriff's station, Brian DeCoro, 19, was arrested after attacking his brother with a knife. The attack happened in the early afternoon at a house on Rancho Adobe Road.

The victim was taken to the hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening.

DeCoro is in custody at the Santa Clarita Sheriff's Station, where he is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
