Toddler Drowns In Tesoro Del Valle Pool

Young girl drowns in tragic accident.

 

A 3-year old girl drowned Saturday evening at the community pool in the Tesoro del Valle housing tract near North Valencia.

According to Lt. Tom Bryski of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, adults were in the pool area, but no one saw what happened.

The girl, identified by Coroner Lt. Ed Corral as Irene Shin Choi, was discovered at approximately 6:37 p.m. and taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, where she was declared dead.

The American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles, Santa Clarita District, recognized outstanding supporters May 13 at its annual Candlelight Awards dinner.  These awards are given to volunteers and members of the community who have rendered outstanding service to the American Red Cross in the past year.  The winners are nominated by fellow volunteers.

Runner Bill To Restrict Back Pay To Drug Offenders Passes Senate

Bill would eliminate back pay for instructors arrested for drug offenses.

 

The California Senate Thursday adopted a measure authored by Sen. George Runner that will allow school districts to withhold back-pay compensation to employees who were on administrative leave while enrolled in drug diversion programs.

 

“At a time when California schools are struggling to provide basic services to students, we need to carefully evaluate every dollar we spend,” Runner said. “This common sense measure will allow us to do that.”

Emergency Notification System Updated At City

City makes it possible for internet-based phones to be notified in emergency.

 

The City of Santa Clarita has recently launched a new addition to the City's Emergency Notification System (ENS) that allows residents and businesses to stay connected via telephone and electronic notifications when in danger of being or impacted by an emergency or disaster. This new system allows residents to update their own contact information via the City’s website.

Castaic, Sand Canyon Fires Trounced

Fire crews battle two Santa Clarita fires.
UPDATED: 2:10 p.m.

 

 

ImageA brush fire broke out in Castaic, near Lake Hughes Road at about 1:30 this afternoon. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, and were able to quickly put it out. The fire reportedly ran into a cement drainage ditch which caused it to run low on fuel.
