One Arrested, One At Large In Vehicle Burglaries

Drugs, stolen property, confiscated during April 1 arrest.


Burglary tools, narcotics and stolen property were recovered early Tuesday morning when a resident noticed a suspicious car parked on Thorn Crest Court in Canyon Country.

Robert Santilli, a senior at Valencia High School, has been named Outstanding Student of the Year by the Hart School District’s Regional Occupational Program. Santilli’s award came at the climax of a pirate-themed ROP Advisory Committee Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner, which drew hundreds of students, parents and business and community leaders who serve on the ROP Advisory Committee.

Mock Explosions To Last Another Day

Explosions are just noisy movie magic.


The City of Santa Clarita had announced that mock explosions will be heard Tuesday and Wednesday night as part of a local film project.


Now, however, the explosions will be taking place Thursday night as well.  


The filming will be based out of the Whittaker-Bermite property, and residents around the area have all been notified. In addition, the fire department has approved the faux explosions and they will be on hand monitoring the situation.


First-Ever Carpool Lane On I-5 Dedicated

Move will connect 118 - 14 to smooth transitions and prevent backups.


The first carpool lane on interstate 5 in Los Angeles County will be celebrated Friday afternoon by the people who joined forces and made it possible.


The 6.2 mile stretch begins at the 118 or Simi Valley Freeway and links to the 14 or Antelope Valley Freeway with a direct high occupancy vehicle connector at the I-5-14 interchange.


Pyramid Lake To Reopen Saturday

Thousands of yards of sediment removed from Forest Service dock.


After being closed for 45 days for sediment removal, Pyramid Lake will reopen for public recreation on Saturday.

The Department of Water Resources performed the cleanup operations, drawing the lake level down 23 feet and removing 32,000 cubic yards of sediment that had accumulated around the U.S. Forest Service boat dock over the last four decades.

Zonta Brunch To Honor Women Volunteers

Fifteen women singled out by their nonprofit organizations for donations of time and skills.


Fifteen women representing 14 local community service organizations will be honored at the annual Women in Service Celebration sponsored by Zonta Club of the Santa Clarita Valley. This year’s brunch will be held Saturday, April 5, at Valencia Country Club. Registration opens at 9:30 a.m., and the program will begin at 10 a.m.
