Veterans Service Center Opens In Santa Clarita

Local office makes myriad of services available to veterans and families.


To provide information and assistance to veterans, their dependents and families regarding potential veterans benefits and other vital services, the Los Angeles County Department of Military and Veterans Affairs has opened a new Veterans Service Office at 24271 Main Street in Newhall, announced Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.


Information on the following services will be provided to veterans and their families:


Deadline Nearing For Zonta Scholarship Applications

Young women sought for Women In Business scholarship.


The April 14 deadline is approaching for young women who are interested in pursuing a career in business to apply for the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business scholarship offered by Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley Foundation.


The local winner receives $1,000 and the chance to advance to competition at the district and international levels.

Pair Arrested On Deadly Weapon Charges

Two said they were here to back up friends.


Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a gang fight in Saugus Sunday night and arrested two combatants on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.


Matthew Saylor, 21, and Tristan La Lone, 18 of La Crescenta told deputies they had come up to help a friend who was going to be in a fight in the 27000 Santa Clarita Road, according to Sgt. Byron Waynie.

Suspected Drug Dealer Arrested In Newhall

A suspected drug dealer was arrested Friday when deputies responding to an anonymous online tip found a suspicious vehicle near Placerita Canyon and 12th Street.


Caltrans Work Slows Drive On I-5

 Truck Route closures having an impact on Santa Clarita traffic.


Sunday, the closure of the north bound truck lanes by Caltrans caused major delays for passengers between on the I-5 between the 405 and the 14 freeways.


Caltrans told KHTS that the closure was due to some emergency pavement repairs that had to be made on the route. Reportedly some potholes were causing damage to vehicles and therefore the move to fix them was given top priority.
