Rock Slide Brings Trouble To The 14 Freeway

A rock/debris slide occurred on the southbound 14, just north of Pearblossom Highway Tuesday morning. 

UPDATED: Tuesday, 12:20 p.m.  


3-4 lanes were blocked by debris and a Sigalert was issued for that stretch of road.


At just after 12:00 p.m., the Sigalert was cancelled and traffic was flowing smoothly.  


Aiming For City-Wide Disaster Preparedness

City striving to make our community ready for anything.


April has been proclaimed Emergency Preparedness Month in the City of Santa Clarita and on Saturday, April 19, the City will host the 16th annual Emergency Preparedness Expo at the College of the Canyons from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Expo is free to attend and is set to entertain as well as educate the whole family.


SCV Youth Project Bowling For "Youts"

The improperly pronounced “youths” may be an example of the lighthearted approach the Youth Project is taking with their 3rd annual fundraiser.


It will happen on May 18th, at the Valencia Lanes, and the money raised will help the organization continue its work providing counseling and peer support for our local high school students.


Two sessions are set for the bowling; the first from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00, and the second from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30.


Individual bowlers, bowling teams and lane sponsorships are available.


Taxes Due At Midnight: Local Post Office To Remain Open

For those Santa Clarita residents who are looking for a local post office to send their tax returns before the midnight deadline- the only local post office that will remain open tonight is the Valencia Post Office, located at:

The next nearest location open until midnight is the Van Nuys post office on Sherman Way, in the San Fernando Valley.



12-Year Old Questioned In Creekside Blaze

Charges may be filed against juvenile in 2-acre burn.


A 12-year old boy admitted to starting a fire that burned just over two acres Saturday night in the wash behind Creekside Road and the Wm. S. Hart baseball fields.

The youngster was questioned by sheriff’s Arson and Explosive detectives and told them he had been playing with a lighter near dry brush Saturday evening. After questioning, he was released to his parents.

According to Sgt. Debbie Miller, charges may or may not be filed, depending on the recommendation of arson detectives.

Dodgers Fall 6-4

On Monday night the Dodgers lost in a close one to the Pirates, 6-4.

Man With A Gun Arrested After Pursuit

Gun-waving man attracts attention, leads pursuit Sunday night.


A man with a gun was arrested Sunday night when he brandished the weapon in the parking lot of Vincenzo’s Pizza on Plum Canyon Road.

Deputies arrived shortly after 9 p.m. as the man got back into his car and led them on a short pursuit.

Jose Castro, 37, was booked at the Santa Clarita station on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a deadly weapon and a vehicle code violation.

I-5 Truck Lanes To Close

Truck lanes to close every day this  week.


The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close the southbound Golden State Freeway (I-5) truck bypass lanes daily, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. beginning Monday, April 14 to Friday, April 18.


Santa Clarita Planning Community Drill Wednesday

Residents Encouraged to Participate in a City Wide “Drop, Cover and Hold” Drill.

On April 16, at 9:05 a.m., the City extends an invitation to everyone in the community to practice earthquake preparedness by participating in a “Drop, Cover, and Hold” drill, whether at work, home, or school. For this community drill, everyone is encouraged to remain in the “Drop, Cover, and Hold” position for 30 seconds. 

To facilitate this drill at your location(s), the City suggests the following:


SCV To Gather For "Evening Of Remembrance"

Young lives will be remembered at the Youth Grove on Wednesday, April 16, 2008.


The City of Santa Clarita will host the 3rd Annual “Evening of Remembrance” on Wednesday, April 16 from 7:20 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the Youth Grove in Central Park. The “Evening of Remembrance” is meant to remember Santa Clarita Valley youth who have died in traffic-related incidents, as well as raise community awareness about the importance of safe and responsible driving.
