    AMR Paramedics, EMTs Walk Out

    Striking workers ready to stay out as long as it takes to settle health insurance issues.

     

     

    Paramedics and emergency medical technicians employed by American Medical Response walked the picket lines for a second day in an effort to protect their health benefits.

    The strike was called after union officials and AMR negotiators met Sunday night and were unable to come up with a compromise. Critical issues include salary increases and assurance that health costs remain affordable.

    Potential Arsonist Arrested Monday Night

    Distraught man threatens family home.

     

    A Saugus man is in custody for attempting to set his house on fire. 29-year old Jeff Stauffer doused his garage, car and lawn with gasoline shortly after 11 p.m. Monday while under the influence of alcohol, and threatened to burn down the home.

    Sheriff’s deputies were able to remove his wife and two children from the Wellston Drive house safely and Stauffer was arrested without incident.

    Suspect Arrested For Mail Theft, Narcotics

    A North Hollywood woman was arrested early Monday morning on drug and mail theft related charges after being stopped near Sierra Highway and Dolan Way.

    Sheriff's Volunteers To Be Honored Saturday

    Volunteers save Los Angeles County hundreds of thousands of dollars.

     

    During National Volunteer Week, which is April 28 through May 3, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station will recognize and show appreciation for all the committed volunteers who devote their time throughout the year to making the Santa Clarita Valley a better, safer place to live.

    Club Basketball Ends On High Note

    More than 300 players had a great hoop season.

     

    The basketball season at the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley came to a close April 24 after four championship games. More than 300 members, ages 7-18, of the Club and Newhall Community Center engaged in the sports league.

    Registration for the upcoming Fall AYSO soccer season is underway for Newhall, Valencia, Stevenson Ranch and surrounding areas. Walk in registration will be held at a series of elementary schools or you can register online at www.ayso678.org.

    Registration will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the following dates at these schools:

     

    April 29: Stevenson Ranch Elementary, 25820 N. Carroll Ln.

    April 30: Pico Canyon Elementary, 25255 Pico Canyon Rd.

    District Offers Students New Car In Exchange For Good Grades

    Hart School district and Valencia Nissan giving away a car to one high achieving pupil.
    Rather than the normal pat on the back, one Hart District student will be receiving keys to a brand new car for getting good grades in school.
