    Battle For Champions Crown Heats Up

    Day two sinks some, propels others.

    What a difference a day makes. At the close of business yesterday, Nick Price and last year’s champion Tom Purtzer held the respective one and two slots of the AT&T Champions Classic being held at the Valencia Country Club. 

     

    Today, Price slumped following a 5 over par to 17th place, while Purtzer faltered late and ended with a 1 over par, which dropped him into an overall tie for 7th place.

    FBI, HazMat Respond To Suspicious Activity

    Employees acting strangely prompt call to authorities.

     

    Sheriff’s deputies, HazMat units and FBI agents responded to a suspicious activity call Friday afternoon at MannKind Corporation on Ave. Paine in the Valencia Commerce Center.

     

    Sgt. Ernie DeArmas said that a source within the company called after noticing two employees of the firm walking around and looking closely at a machine that uses radioactive materials.

    Detectives from the LA County Sheriff’s Special Victims Bureau are investigating the contents of a portable thumb drive found to contain child pornography. The drive was found in a photo lab at College of the Canyons in November.

    College of the Canyons spokesman John McElwain said the thumb drive was found in the photo department’s computer lab in late September and placed in a lost and found box.

    When our daughter Ellie was born, her Godmother gave her a priceless gift, a handmade quilt.  It was a lovely piece of work, with various delicate calico prints pieced together into log-cabin blocks.  The blocks were then connected to one another by means of a solid-colored border.

    Years later when Ellie was a teenager, she wanted a more “mature” looking bedroom.  So I carefully packed away her quilt, hoping she would want it again someday when she was truly mature enough to recognize its value as an heirloom.

    City Expands Open Space On Eastside

    900-acre parcel is largest acquisition in city's history.

     

    The City of Santa Clarita added 900 acres of greenbelt to its open spaces on Wednesday, dedicating land at the head of Golden Valley Ranch trail.

     

    The parcel, which is the largest open space acquisition in the city’s history, includes area bordering the Placerita Nature Center and parts of Sand Canyon and the Fair Oaks Ranch community.
