Gump Retires After 31 Years As Deputy

Now-former lieutenant looks forward to hitting the road.


One of Santa Clarita’s finest is hanging up his badge today; Lt. Larry Gump will leave the sheriff’s department after 31 years of service.


Now that he no longer has to listen to radio calls or write reports, he’s looking forward to doing a lot of hiking, traveling and maybe even going back to school.

SCV Outdoor Report: Wildlife Corridors In The SCV

When you pull out a roadmap of Santa Clarita, you eyes are naturally drawn to the grid of streets and street names.  Just where is that new restaurant? How do we get from here to there?

But when I looked at the new South Coast Wildlands map of the wildlife corridors running through Southern California, my eyes were drawn to the Santa Clarita Valley.  I recognized the donut-shaped greenbelt surrounding our valley.  Du-oh!  A donut!

SCVTV News Closes Doors

Production company lets employees go, issues final checks, disconnects phones.


The entity providing local television programming for Santa Clarita has closed its doors.

Lauren Broadcasting, which contracted with the city to provide locally-produced content, including SCVTV News and Your SCV on Channel 20, gave employees their walking papers last week, handing final paychecks out on Monday.

Warrant Issued For Bus Driver In Fatal Crash

Misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charged in Stevenson Ranch incident.


A warrant has been issued for the Santa Clarita Transit driver involved in a fatal Jan. 18 crash, charging him with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.


Rosamond resident David Juliano Delape, an employee of Veolia Transportation, which contracts with Santa Clarita, has been on unpaid administrative leave since the incident, according to company spokesperson Kelly Smith.

Armed Robber Arrested In Pizza Delivery Case

Arrest made in January delivery robbery.


A Canyon Country man was arrested Tuesday morning in connection with the January 19 armed robbery of a Papa John’s pizza delivery person that occurred in the 17000 block of Danielson Street in Canyon Country. 


Michael Zachery, 18, allegedly approached the delivery man, took four pizzas and then threatened him with a gun when asked for money.

Wanted Felon Captured In Closet

Short pursuit yields burglary tools, narcotics.


A wanted felon was found hiding in the closet of a vacant apartment near McBean Parkway and Avenue Scott Tuesday afternoon after leading police on a pursuit from the Mervyns’ parking lot.
