    More than 1,700 sign online petition, skaters fear more criminal activity.

     

    Local skateboarders have collected more than 1,700 signatures on petitions asking the city of Santa Clarita to keep the local skatepark open, even though the old park must be demolished to build a park three times bigger.

    Shots fired call brings deputies to Arch Street neighborhood.

     

    Deputies arrested two men Friday night in Newhall after responding to a shots-fired call near 2nd and Arch Street.

    Newhall residents Andrew Mendoza, 22, and Alfredo Vargas, 43, were booked on felony charges after it was determined a gun in their possession had been recently fired.

    Vargas posted bond, but Mendoza is being held in lieu of $35,000 bail.
