    Lockheed Player Of The Week - John Otavka - February 26th, 2008

    Congratulations to Valencia High guard John Otavka, this week’s Lockheed Player of the Week.

    Otavka scored 29 points with six rebounds, three steals and three assists combined in the Vikings win over Fullerton and loss to Arroyo Valley in the quarterfinal round of the CIF Soutern Section Div. IIAA playoffs.  Otavka hit the game winning three point shot with two seconds left to defeat Fullerton.

    For his production, Lockheed Federal Credit Union will donate $250.00 to the Valencia High athletics program.

    Valencia Man Sentenced To Five Years, $1M Fine In Securities Fraud

    Investors lost $6 million in fraudulent scheme.

     

     

    Valencia resident Keith Gilabert, 36, was sentenced to five years in federal prison Monday by U.S. District Judge Stephen Wilson for lying to investors about his fraudulent operation that resulted in approximately $6 million in losses to investors.

    Meza Recognized For His Outstanding Work At Center

    Newhall teen singled out for improving grades and self.

     

    Jose Meza was recently named “Boy of the Year” of the Newhall
    Community Center at a recent volunteer recognition dinner.

    Meza was singled our for his outstanding effort, which included improving his grades to the level of  being named to the principals Honor Roll at Valencia High
    School. He also found mentorship and support for making positive life choices from which he emerged as a role model to other youth at the center.

    Despite an overall decline in sales tax revenues for the third quarter, Santa Clarita saw some sales tax category increases. Santa Clarita sales tax numbers for the third quarter of 2007 (July, August, September 2007) saw a 5.4% overall decrease compared with the same quarter one year ago.
