City Survey To Fill Newhall Library Needs

New facility planned for downtown Newhall open to suggestions from citizens.


The city of Santa Clarita is looking for community input on the new library planned for downtown Newhall.

The new stacks will be built as part of the Newhall Redevelopment project at the end of Main Street. The online survey (which can be downloaded, printed and passed around to friends and neighbors) is available for residents to express their wants and wishes for the facility.

SCV Karate Team Wins Big At Tournament

Newhall Community Center’s karate team comes out on top at national tournament.

On January 25, 16 members of the Newhall Community Center's karate team competed at the 2008 IMAC USA Martial Arts Winter Olympics in Las Vegas, Nevada and received 10 first place champions, four second, and two third place trophies.  

More than 1,500 participants from around the country exhibited their martial arts skills in the prestigious competition, and yet every member of the Community Center’s karate team managed to place in the tournament.

COC Starting Community Classes

Spring community education classes start next week.


The College of the Canyons Community Education Department is offering several non-credit classes for older adults starting the week of Feb. 4, 2008.The classes include Gardening as Self Expression, Life-Long Learning through Basic Spanish, Computer Resources: Computer and You II.

“Community Education classes are fun and held in a relaxed environment,” says Jennifer Brezina, the interim dean of noncredit and community education. “These factors make the classes all the more enjoyable.”
