Hometown Sports Report 10-19-07

ImageIn girls’ golf, the Hart Indians won the Newhall Land Cup with a team score of 323.  Valencia finished second with a 345.  West Ranch came in third.  Jasnin Samson of Valencia was the individual winner as she shot a two day score of 114.  Brenna Carlson of Hart came in second, two strokes back and Grace Nam of Golden Valley came in third.

 

Castellanos Clears Up Measure V

Problems stem from accounting errors, not foul play

William S. Hart School District Superintendent Jaime Castellanos went on air with KHTS AM 1220 Thursday morning to talk about recent criticism the District has faced over alleged misuses of Measure V funds.

Measure V was a $158 million voter approved bond that was to be used on construction or modernization of local schools. Recently, an audit reported that the District did not do as good of a job as they could have when reporting which expenditures measure V funds were used for.

Newhall Land Won't Let Waste Go To Waste

Kids learn to how yard clippings make for fresh soil

In a special presentation to 2nd graders at Bridgeport Elementary, Newhall Land demonstrated how old yard trimmings are given new life, as mulch, useful in planting new crops.

Newhall land has launched the program to help keep green waste from filling up landfills when it can be used for sustaining new growth. In it, they have partnered with Agromin, who actually transforms the waste.

Governor Signs Runner's Underage Drinking Bill

Bill provides larger penalties for underage drinking offenses

ImageAssemblywoman Sharon Runner joined Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger at a press conference today to announce the signing of AB 1658 into law, a bill that increases penalties for underage drinking and the manufacturing of fraudulent identification cards.

 

Board Supports Providence Hospital Expansion

Necessary expansion of Providence Holy Cross is mentioned to L.A. City Council

 

Tony Bell, the Communications Deputy addressed the need for more hospital beds in the County.  The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a motion by Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich to send a five-signature letter to the Los Angeles City Council and Mayor’s Office supporting expansion of health services and beds at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center.

Lawsuit Filed Against Hart District Over Inappropriate Touching

Parents of teenage girl accuse former Hart District coach of being inappropriate

A civil law suit has been filed against the Hart District over an incident involving a former coach at Rio Norte Jr. High.

 

 The coach, Scott Bell is accused of being inappropriate to a Jr. High school girl, with whom he reportedly carried on contact outside of school.

 

The LA County Superior court confirmed the law suit had been filed and that the next hearing is scheduled for February.
