Heat safety is the July feature for the City of Santa Clarita’s 12 months of Personal Preparedness.
In Santa Clarita, temperatures exceeding 100 degrees are not uncommon during the summer and fall. During an average summer, some 200 people across the country die due to heat injuries from exposure to high summer temperatures.
As of 4:30pm on Sunday afternoon, the fire department is cleaning up the remnants of a small brush fire burning in a portion of the Angeles National Forrest in Canyon Country, on Soledad Canyon Rd and Capra Rd. The fire has burned 10 acres and no structures have been threatened.
Luau will present awards, and celebrate the success of last month's Relay for Life. Team captains, co-captains, committee members and special guests who helped make the American Cancer Society’s 2007 SCV Relay For Life a rousing success will celebrate their victory with a luau-themed awards banquet Wednesday, July 18, at Hart Hall in Newhall.

The City of Santa Clarita is encouraging all residents to attend the second community workshop for the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan Update on Wednesday, July 18, 2007, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Activities Center in the Santa Clarita Sports Complex, located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway.
Assemblyman Portantino tours campus, talks with school officials
The Chair of the California State Assembly Committee on Higher Education Anthony Portantino made a visit to Santa Clarita this afternoon to visit College of the Canyons.
His visit was arranged by Assemblyman Cameron Smyth, who spoke very highly of his fellow Assemblyman, who is Democrat.
