    City Council takes time to speak on issue

    The Santa Clarita City Council has made no secrets about their dedication to preserving open space.

    The latest way of doing so is by starting an Open Space Preservation District, which the Council unanimously passed a few weeks ago.

    City's Budget Looks Into The Crystal Ball

    Balanced budget calls for increases in public safety, other projects

    At Tuesday night’s City Council meeting, City Manager Ken Pulskamp presented the budget for fiscal year 2007-2008.

    The budget is balanced, and runs in the neighborhood of $159,000,000.

    A few highlights of the budget include increased public safety measures and the beginnings of new projects the City has in mind. Below, some of the highlights are listed more specifically:

    Fires set late Sunday night in Valencia

    ImageThe Sheriff’s Department is reporting that five fires, set in the late hours of Sunday night are being investigated as arson.

    The fires were all located in the area of Valencia around McBean Parkway and Arroyo Park Dr.

    City's Crime Rate Drops

    Santa Clarita ranked 3rd Safest City in California for 2006

    According to the California Department of Justice, the City of Santa Clarita was the third safest city in California following Irvine and Glendale.  Santa Clarita experienced a 5.7 percent increase in its population for 2006, but violent and property crimes in the City dropped 4.6 percent over the previous year.   in 2006 for cities with a population of 150,000 or more, following
