Patrol Deputy spots them spray painting at Canyon High

Five girls were arrested Monday night after a deputy spotted them in the parking lot of Canyon High School and reportedly watched as one of them spray painted a wall at the school.

Further investigation and the eventual detention of all the individuals reportedly resulted in the recovery of additional spray paint and three knives in the suspects vehicle.

Off-duty deputy wakes up to find burglar in his car

An off-duty Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff awoke around 4:00 Monday morning to find a man inside of his vehicle which was parked in the driveway of his Saugus residence.

When the deputy attempted to detain the suspect, Larry Vu, nineteen years old from Saugus, he violently fought with him and attempted to get away. The deputy and other residents  who came to help, managed to hold the suspect until responding deputies took him into custody.

City Asks for Public Comments on Application

The City of Santa Clarita will be submitting a grant application for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant offered by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, in the amount of $35,545, and is inviting public comments on the proposal.

The City and the Sheriff’s Department are committed to improving community safety, and recognize the need for proactive law enforcement and community policing.  These grant funds will augment the resources already provided by the City to ensure community safety.

$80 million on its way

The first bonds from Measure M, the College of the Canyons general obligation bonds approved by voters in November 2006, were sold last week, yielding nearly $80 million for new buildings and facilities upgrades at both campuses.

The bonds went to market May 17 with 40-year maturities overall and a rate of 4.825 percent, which is a very good rate and a low cost of borrowing for the College. The net proceeds to the District will be $79,997,270 on May 30.
