    ImageAfter facing the brutal Sierra Road Category 1 climb approaching San Jose, Team CSC won its second consecutive stage with Jens Voight (GER) dominating most of the 94.8-mile (152.2km) stage with a time of 3:43.44 to best Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team's Levi Leipheimer (USA).     City Hall will be a temporary resting place for the newly completed Amgen Tour of California Bear, which will make its way to the Amgen Stage Six awards stage on Friday, February 23, 2007, beginning at 11 a.m.

    The Santa Clarita Arts Advisory Committee reviewed 9 different artist proposals for the Amgen Tour of California Bear and selected local artist, Frank Rock, to paint the fiberglass giant in honor of America’s most important cycling race.

    Following a long, hard day of racing as nearly 150 elite cyclists competing in the 2007 Amgen Tour of California traveled from Santa Rosa to Sacramento, Team CSC sprinter J.J. Haedo (ARG) claimed today's stage victory in front of continuing record crowds that have reached 620,000 over the first three days of racing, with five left to go.

    Woman's Bike Race To Set Stage For Amgen

             Just a few hours before the men cycle into town for the Amgen Tour of California on February 24th, female cyclists from the Santa Clarita Velo will compete in their own cycling race. 

         The inaugural Santa Clarita Grand Prix is a female only criterium featuring elite women cyclists from all over the world. The course is a 1.1 mile loop with over 110 feet of climbing each lap. The start is located in the Valencia Industrial Center at the corner of Kelly Johnson Parkway and Constellation.

    The City’s top volunteers gathered at Salt Creek Grill on Tuesday, Feb, 20th, to work on the upcoming 2007 Santa Clarita Man and Woman of the Year dinner, scheduled for May 4th at the Valencia Hyatt.

    Led by the 2006 Man and Woman of the Year, Michael Berger and Diana Cusamano, the committee, composed of all prior winners, met to discuss the upcoming Paparazzi party where the 2007 nominations will be officially announced.

     

    DUI Checkpoint Nabs 4

     Friday night, a stretch of northbound Bouquet Canyon road just past Wellston Drive was the sight of the Sheriff’s Department’s February DUI Checkpoint. 1 person was arrested inside the checkpoint, and three more who tried to evade it were also taken into custody for DUI charges.
