LA Kings Change Up Roster

The Los Angeles Kings have activated goaltender Mathieu
Garon from the injured reserve and assigned goaltender Yutaka Fukufuji
to the Reading Royals of the ECHL, Kings President/General Manager Dean
Lombardi announced today.

Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital’s 26 Silver Rose Debutantes will express their appreciation for all that their mothers have given them with personally-made symbols of their affection during the Hospital Guild’s 21st annual Mother-Daughter Tea Sunday, February 11.

The Big Read

The Big Read will begin here in Santa Clarita on February 5th, and will go until March 30th. The Big Read is a program designed to highlight reading in the community as well as promote a particular classic book. This time, it’s Fahrenheit 451.

Northbound 405 Re-Opens After Crane Accident

All lanes of the Northbound 405 have now been re-opened! Traffic is still recovering from the hours it was closed, but at this point it is at least moving. The 405 had been shut down due to a crane that fell following a car accident. This occurred in Sherman Oaks, very close to the 101 interchange.  

The crane operator was trapped for a time in the crane, but he has been rescued and airlifted to UCLA MedicalCenter.


Early reports say that the crane fell as a result of a car accident.


Smyth Wants Businesses Held Accountable

ImageBuilding on an ordinance he developed on the Santa Clarita City Council, Assemblyman Cameron Smyth, R-Santa Clarita, recently introduced AB 107, which requires that businesses who wish to contract with the State of California verify under penalty of perjury that their employees are appropriately documented.


High School Basketball Scores

In a game heard LIVE on KHTS Friday night, the Saugus Centurions beat the Valencia Vikings 67-56.  In other local action, it was Canyon over West Ranch 68-61 and Hart over Golden Valley 79-45.  Tune in on Tuesday night at 6:15pm, when you can hear Valencia take on Canyon on KHTS.

Job Shadow Day Puts Kids In The Drivers Seat

ImageToday, hundreds of High School students put their education on hold for half the day, to go to work with local businesses. It was all a part of the Groundhog Job Shadow Day, organized by the School and Business Alliance of Santa Clarita.

KHTS had four shadows: Saugus students Kayla Simon, Sam Rosas, Jamie Kucharski and Bowman student Nichole Goltz.

Hiding In Plain Sight

With their huge head and small body, they look a bit like a bobble-head doll. Their heads even move like a bobble-head, shimmying back and forth. It brings a smile to my face, but even so, I recognize these Hooded Merganser ducks are involved in some serious courtship behavior.


LA Galaxy To Play In Santa Clarita

ImageThe Michael Hoefflin Foundation has teamed up with the Los Angeles Galaxy and Columbus Crew to present a professional match on Sunday, March 18, 2007 at 5:00pm.  The game will be played at Cougar Stadium at College of the Canyons (COC), located at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road.  All proceeds from the game will benefit the Michael Hoefflin Foundation.
