Cycling Legend Greg LeMond To Be In Santa Clarita Before Amgen Tour

ImageOn Friday, February 23rd, cycling fans can experience a once in a lifetime opportunity to enjoy an evening with an icon of the cycling world – Greg LeMond. The “An Evening with Greg LeMond Special Guest Kozo Shimano” gala dinner will be held at Robinson Ranch as the precursor to the Amgen Tour of California, which arrives in Santa Clarita on Saturday, February 24th.

FREEdom Rides Not Just For Seniors Anymore

In a further effort to attract more people to ride the bus, the City has extended the “FREEdom for Seniors” program to include disabled passengers, as well as those ages 60 and older.

 

“This program has been greatly beneficial to the transportation of our City’s seniors and we are excited to be able to extend this free service to people in the community who are disabled,” said Jeff O’Keefe, Transit Manager for the City.

All City buses are wheelchair accessible and easy to board. Disabled passengers can begin riding the bus for free on February 1, 2007.

California Taxpayers To Get 2 Extra Days To File

California taxpayers will get an extra two days to file and pay their 2006 state income taxes, announced the Franchise Tax Board (FTB). The Internal Revenue Service today announced the new April 17, 2007, deadline, and the FTB quickly changed the California deadline to mirror the federal action.

“Changing the state tax filing deadline with the IRS deadline is a common sense action,” said State Controller and FTB Chair John Chiang. “We welcome the good news that California taxpayers filing taxes will now have until April 17 to do so.”

Accident Closes Soledad

A 4 car accident shut down the westbound lanes of Soledad Canyon Road at around 10:00 this morning. The incident occured when a vehical lost control and went over the center divider. 

Two people were injured in the crash.

Traffic backed up extensively as the lanes were closed, but crews worked quickly to clear debris from the lanes so that the road could be opened.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich comments on the selection of United Airlines to provide service to San Francisco from L.A./Palmdale Regional Airport:

Senator George Runner (R-Antelope Valley) was again selected to Chair the Senate Republican Caucus and confirmed by the full State Senate in addition to being named to several key committees.

COC Unveils New Emeritus Courses

College of the Canyons Extension is gearing up for the spring semester of its newly expanded Emeritus College.  Formerly known as the Older Adult Program, Emeritus College courses are developed to promote the mental and physical health of older adults by exercising their creativity and thought processes, as well as increasing their mobility through fitness and individual development classes.
