    It’s only been a few days since the Big Read kicked off, but it’s already got people reading. Several contests are going on that all center on the Ray Bradbury book Fahrenheit 451.

    Emissions Test On Soledad

    If you’re driving on Soledad Canyon Road today near Sand Canyon and you see a CHP officer directing you to the side of the road, don’t freak out. It’s a roadside emissions study that’s being conducted today by the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs, Bureau of Automotive Repair. And soon that officer pointing his finger will explain to you that it’s not mandatory.

    City and Cemex Announce A Truce

    ImageToday, City leaders and Cemex officials appeared at a press conference together to announce a year long truce between the two. They have battled for years over Cemex’s proposed mine off Soledad Canyon Road that would pull resources out of the ground in epic proportions less than a mile away from residential areas in Santa Clarita.

     

    High School Basketball Scores

    In a game heard live on KHTS Tuesday night, The Valencia Vikings defeated the Canyon Cowboys 64-63.  In other local action, Saugus beat Golden Valley 53-36 and Hart beat West Ranch 93-64.  You can hear Canyon take on Hart, Thursday night beginning at 6:15pm on KHTS.

    Kings Lose 3-2

    On Tuesday night, the LA Kings lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 in a shootout.  You can hear the next Kings game, Thursday at 3:30pm, when they will take on the Washington Capitals on KHTS.

    Smyth Puts Cemex Bill On Hold After Truce

    Dodgers Host Baseball Camp

    The Los Angeles Dodgers began hosting their 48th Adult Baseball Camp on Sunday, February 4 and it ends on Saturday, February 10 at Dodgertown, the Dodgers’ Spring Training facility in Vero Beach , FL.

     

    Eighty-two campers from 17 different states will be taking part in this edition of the twice-yearly camp. California tops the list with 44 attendees. Walt Bentson from Cupertino, CA is attending his 37th camp. 

     

    Kings Make Big Trade

    The Los Angeles Kings have acquired right wing Jason Ward, right wing Marc-Andre Cliché and center Jan Marek from the New York Rangers in exchange for forward Sean Avery and left wing John Seymour, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.

    Lombardi is scheduled to participate in a media conference call today at 4 p.m. (PT). 

    Republicans Unveil Their Health Care Proposal

    To provide greater access to health care for Californians, Senate Republicans released their comprehensive health care proposal. This plan is a balanced and realistic approach to improve consumer choice and introduces better accessibility, while creating greater reliability in California’s health care system.  It proposes to use existing dollars to care for California’s most vulnerable without raising taxes.
