Golden Valley Knocks Off West Ranch In Overtime

On Friday night, the Golden Valley boys varsity basketball team defeated the West Ranch Wildcats 62-60 in overtime.

Workshops To Help Job Seekers

The Santa Clarita WorkSource offers a number of workshops each month to assist customers (job seekers) in their job search.


 Workshops are facilitated by partners and peers from Goodwill Southern California, College of the Canyons, the City of Santa Clarita, L.A. County Office of Education (GAIN), the State of California Employment Development Department (EDD), CNH Lending & Financial Services, and Pre-Paid Legal Services. 

Emancipated Foster Youth Motion Passes County Board

The Board of Supervisors has unanimously approved a motion by Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich directing County departments to work with the State legislative delegation to sponsor legislation that provides enhanced services and financial support to emancipated foster youth between the ages of 18 and 21 years.


Each year, more than 4,000 youths emancipate from California ’s foster care system – nearly 1,500 in Los Angeles County .

Lifeguard Tryouts Open To All Good Swimmers

The City of Santa Clarita’s Aquatic Center is holding open tryouts for lifeguards on January 27,2007, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and February 24,2007, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and again March 3, 2007, 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Swim tests will be given onsite.


City To Teach Saving Energy, Saving Money

The City of Santa Clarita, in affiliation with the Community Energy Partnership, is hosting a FREE two hour workshop to help businesses save energy and money!



The Small Business Energy Workshop will be hosted at the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, January 25, 2007, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce is located at 28460 Avenue Stanford, Suite 100.

State Superintendent Jack O'Connell To Visit Sulphur Springs School

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell gets an up-close look Tuesday, January 23rd at Sulphur Springs Community School (16628 Lost Canyon Road, Canyon Country) in the Sulphur Springs School District.  The visit provides Jack O’Connell with an opportunity to see the 2006 California Distinguished School and its challenging programs first hand.  Sulphur Springs Community School is a leader in providing strong instructional programs for all students.


Six Flags Sells 7 Parks, Not Magic Mountain

Magic Mountain is here to stay! Six Flags sold seven theme parks to PARC 7F-Operations Corporation, for $312 million. Magic Mountain was not included in the deal, and will stay right where it is in Valencia. 

Three weeks ago, KHTS reported that in an effort to relive debt issues, Six Flags Corporate headquarters was looking to offload some parks and Magic Mountain was a potential sell. However, Six Flags officials quelled the rumor that the park would be sold to developers, insisting that only investment companies were looking into the purchase.

Busted Hydrant Stops Traffic On Valencia Blvd

This morning, a speeding Chevy Tahoe lost control and broke a fire hydrant loose and sent gallon after gallon of water spilling out over Valencia blvd near the intersection of Cinema Dr, shutting down the road in both directions for nearly an hour .


Traffic was substantially backed up as a result of the incident, as Valencia Blvd is a main road that connects Valencia with the rest of Santa Clarita. 

Jet Crashes At Van Nuys Airport

A Jet crashed at Van Nuys Airport seconds into take off just before 11:00am today. 


The bodies of two people, believed to be the only people on board, were found by fire crews. 

There have been reports that a cargo door on the plane was open during takeoff, which is likely the cause or possibly a contributing factor to it.

No other individuals on the ground were hurt.


The plane was on its way to Long Beach.
