Filming in City of Santa Clarita Increases to Record Numbers

The City of Santa Clarita’s Santa Clarita Valley Film Office reported increases in the number of film permits and film days from July through November 2006 in Fiscal Year 06-07, when compared with the same time period in 2005.  The Film Office issued a total of 140 permits and hosted 387 film days during the five-month period, representing a seven percent (7%) increase in permits and a 30 percent (30%) increase in film days.  Also of note, November 2006 was the best “November” on record for the Santa Clarita Valley Film Office with regard to the number of film days (80 film days) and the nu

Carnivale Di Venezia To Take Over New Years Eve

On New Years Eve, the Repertory East Playhouse will be hosting Carnivale Di Venezia from 8:00pm to 1am. The party is Black Tie for men, Evening Gown for women, and Carnival Di Venezia Masks for everyone.

Pinecrest Kids Get Treat from CHP

Friday afternoon at Pinecrest Elementary school in Valencia was a special day for students who donated over 725 toys to the CHP Toy Drive. The large number is surprising given that the school itself is relatively small.

The CHP and their mascot, CHiPper the chipmunk, arrived with sirens blaring to pick up the toys with the help of a large Caltrans truck.

In addition to the toys, staff and faculty at Pinecrest donated money to buy five bicycles that were also donated.
Patrolman John Lutz thanked the kids, and made them take an oath to always wear their seatbelts.

Antonovich Reacts To Death of Jeane Kirkpatrick

Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich released the following statement on the passing of former U.N. Ambassador Jeane J. Kirkpatrick: “A visionary voice for freedom has been lost with the passing of Ambassador Jean Kirkpatrick. 
Through her service as President Ronald Reagan’s Ambassador to the United Nations, her writings, lectures, and tenure at the American Enterprise Institute, she was a champion of freedom -- committed to defeating the evils of Communism and tyranny.”

AT&T Champions Classic Gets Sponsorship Extension

AT&T has agreed to extend its sponsorship with the PGA Tour for the 2008 Champions Tour AT&T Champions Classic, Brian Fitzgerald, Tournament Chairman, announced today.

The host site for the 2008 event has not yet been finalized. The event has been played at Valencia Country Club since 2001 with the upcoming AT&T Champions Classic slated for March 12-18 at the challenging Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed course, located north of Los Angeles in the Santa Clarita Valley.


Seniors Encouraged To Take survey

The City of Santa Clarita is participating in a survey, conducted by the Los Angeles County Commission on Aging, to determine the unmet need of seniors living throughout the County of Los Angeles, ages 60 and above.

Lennar Sells Share Of Newhall Ranch

A Percentage of the Newhall Ranch project, targeted as the next community in the Santa Clarita Valley has been sold to a San Francisco Investment Group, MW Housing Partners.

Newhall Ranch, is the next planned community, originally developed by Newhall Land and currently owned by Lennar, Newhall Land's parent company.

Newhall Ranch is projected to add another 60,000 plus residents to the Santa Clarita Valley, with over 20,000 homes planned to be built, along with retail, businesses, schools and parklland.
