Pardee Homes Donates Big Check to Domestic Violence Center


Pardee homes is a big company with offices here in Santa Clarita, and every year, each office has some money set aside for a holiday luncheon. Only they never have a luncheon.

COC Fastest Growing Community College in U.S.

According to a study by Community College Week, COC is the fastest growing two year institution in the nation.
The study looked at the absolute change in the enrollment numbers between fall 2004 and fall 2005. They also separated colleges by size, with categories ranging between less than 2,500 students, and those with 10,000 or more.

College of the Canyons is in the highest category; over 10,000 students.

The numbers add up to a 14.3% growth, good enough for 1st place!

Another Bank Gets Robbed

Yesterday, just before 3:00, a man walked into Telesis Credit Union at 27093 McBean Parkway and robbed the bank.
He brandished a silver semi-automatic gun and demanded money, which he received totaling $7,164.

He then fled into what deputies have described as a newer blue SUV with clear windows, and headed southbound.

No one was injured in the heist.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’6, 140 pounds. He was last seen wearing a green hooded jacket and blue sweat pants, with black fishnet stockings over his face.

SCV Disaster Coalition Honored

The Santa Clarita Valley Disaster Coalition (SCVDC) was awarded one of the top awards from the Emergency Preparedness Commission for the County and Cities of Los Angeles for its drive to assist the golf coast schools that were impacted by hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Kings Lose 5-3

On Tuesday night, the Kings lost another game to the Calgary Flames 5-3. You can catch the next Kings game, Thursday night at 430pm on KHTS. 

City Unveils Creative Way to Keep Newhall Clean







Yesterday, the City put new trashcans along San Fernando Road through downtown Newhall. They weren’t ordinary trashcans however; they had a little bit of what you might call…flair.

10 trashcans adorned with pieces of art now line the street, and its all part of an ongoing project to re-define downtown Newhall.

TimBen Boydston Sworn Into Council

A special city council meeting was held tonight to officially swear in TimBen Boydston to the city council.

Boydston was flanked by his wife and daughter as he took the oath, and then took his seat alongside Bob Kellar.

He thanked God, and his family, as well as the council who appointed him to serve as a placeholder.

Smyth Appointed Vice Chair of Environmental Safety

Assemblyman Cameron Smyth, R-Santa Clarita, today announced that he has been named Vice-Chair of the Assembly Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials Committee for the 2007-08 legislative session.

Lockheed Players of the Week "Canyon Cowboys Defense" December 19, 2006

Congratulations, Defense of Canyon High School for being “Players of the Week”.
With all due respect to JJ DiLuigi, the MVP of the CIF State Football Championship, this week’s Player of the Week is the Cowboys defense.

They held the No. 1 team in the country, a team that averaged 42.5 points per game during the playoffs, to just 13 points.  But perhaps the most important contribution of all was denying that potent offense three times on fourth down conversions, including a stand at the goal line that could have tied the game in the third quarter.

 

County Re-Directing Patrons of Burned Medical Building

“Our office and County officials are working diligently to restore vital services to their clients,” said Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, in the wake of a devastating blaze which ravaged the Valencia Medical Building housing several County departments -- including the Department of Mental Health, Environmental Health, and the Tax Assessor’s office.
