Update on I-5/Magic Mountain Road Improvements

The latest, according to a Caltrans release:



The construction for the Magic Mountain Parkway / I-5 interchange improvements is progressing on schedule.  The general contractor, Security Paving Construction, is continuing the construction of the rectangular shaped storm drain box, which is located west of The Old Road.  The completion of the entire storm drain box and the outlet structure should take approximately 12 months with minimal utility conflicts.

Antonovich Criticizes Subway to the Sea

Los Angeles County Mayor Michael D. Antonovich criticized plans to extend the subway to the ocean, suggesting that the huge cost will add to Los Angeles County ’s regional transit crisis.



Santa Claritas Metrolink Ridership Increases

Southern California Regional Rail Authority’s newest report on Metrolink ridership for October 2006 demonstrated an increase in train riders in the Santa Clarita Valley who travel prior to 8:30 a.m.



Santa Clarita averages over 1,100 rail riders per day with Metrolink Stations in Santa Clarita, Via Princess, and Newhall.  Santa Clarita’s morning train travelers top areas such as Lancaster, Palmdale, Burbank, Simi Valley, and Northridge.

 

Homeless Shelter Opens in SCV

The temporary homeless shelter has opened its doors in Canyon Country, operating in the commercial area on Centre Point Parkway. The shelter is not at all a new idea here in Santa Clarita; however some people would like to make it a permanent one.



As it stands now, the shelter is open December through mid March.  There has been talk about finding a permanent location but that has been met with some caution.



Saugus Marching Band Competes in Championship

The Saugus High School Marching Band and Color Guard is off at the San Diego community of Vista this weekend for the 2006 Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association Championship competition.



This is the fifth consecutive year the band has been invited to participate in the prestigious event.



This year's competition takes place today, at Rancho Buena Vista High School.



the band and color guard will be performing their 2006 Field Show, which has gathered high marks at their competitions so far.

Special thanks to the Veluzat family for welcoming us to their spectacular venue.



Breaking News: Top 5 Council Candidates Chosen

Following a day of interviewing 15 candidates for the soon to be vacated City Council seat, the 16 community panel members cast their ratings for their top picks. The top choices will be forwarded to the City Council for consideration at a special City Council meeting on December 6, 2006 at 5:30 p.m. at Santa Clarita City Hall. The new City Council member is expected to be installed at a special City Council meeting on December 19, 2006.
