Open Forum on Hospital Expansion Fuels Debate

An open forum on the proposed 25 year Master Plan by Henry Mayo Hospital and G&L Realty was held last night at Valencia United Methodist Church.

The forum was brought about to let the public sit in on presentations from both sides of the proposed hospital expansion which include Smart Growth SCV, who oppose the current plan as it is written, and Henry Mayo Hospital, represented by CEO Roger Seaver. The format was pre-determined as one 15 minute presentation by each side, followed by one 10 minute rebuttal each, and then ending with questions from the audience.

Providence Holy Cross and SCV Arts Partner For The “Art of Healing”

Art has been known to heal. Now, Santa Clarita art students can help the healing process and win a full art scholarship as they fill the walls with their art at the new Providence Holy Cross medical facility in Santa Clarita.

The project is a joint collaboration between Providence Holy Cross and SCV Arts. It evolved while Jeri Seratti Goldman, owner of KHTS AM-1220 radio was receiving a tour of the new facility.

College of the Canyons student journalists won 22 awards, including first place for news writing and news photography, at a journalism conference where more than 30 Southern California community colleges were represented.

City Takes Anti-Cemex Bus On The Road

The City of Santa Clarita, fresh off the unveiling of their Transit bus wrapped in anti-Cemex advertising, took the bus for a spin Monday morning to a press event in Universal City.

Volunteers, including this reporter, climbed aboard the flashiest bus in town at 9:30, seated just a few rows from Mayor Laurene Weste and Councilman Bob Kellar.

Cemex to Appeal UK Pollution Fine

Cemex, the company responsible for plans to put a mega mine off of SoledadCanyon, has received a fine for exceeding the United Kingdom’s pollution regulations in Rugby.

According to icCoventry.co.uk, the incident in question involved a silo acess door at Cemex’s Rugby Cement Factory that came loose, sending what has been described as a “potentially very hazardous and toxic” cloud of dust over homes and cars nearby.

Henry Mayo Holds 22nd Annual Fashion Show

On November 5th at the Sheraton Universal, Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Guild held a Fashion Show that serves as a fundraiser for the Laboratory Services Department.

The show had a Phantom of the Opera theme, and sported designs from Margo Fashions.

Lunch was served, and raffle prizes were awarded, with funds coming from ticket sales and Sponsors.
